I don't think its unfair to point out that Stuart's first squads were tame. When they clicked it was fantastic to watch but when it was tough they often rolled over. Again, I don't think its unfair to highlight that Stuart added flair to the grit that was inherited from Parky's squad. When some of those players moved on through no fault of Stuart's, he struggled to replace it. Again, we know that was probably no fault of Stuart's as well.

Its why I'll be keeping a close eye on matters there, not just because Scunthorpe are rivals but I want to see Stuart prove that he can get a club out of a rut. Obviously not at our own expense of course!

I've no doubt he can, and I hope he's given the time he needs to prove it. he needs to prove a few folk on here completely and utterly wrong. although some of them do a surprisingly good job of making themselves look idiotic without McCall's help.

and you would do well to understand that he's actually done a terrific job at both Motherwell and here in his latest spell, and that he actually does have some management acumen.

I thought we were still in the top six when Edin sacked him, after taking us to Wembley the previous season something the great Phil Parkinson couldn't do ?.

This is conjecture on your part.

the fact of the matter is, the one occasion in his second spell that we endured a poor run, he wasn't given the chance to turn it around.

the fact that he was getting lambasted by Edin for not playing more attacking football - so went attacking at Sheff Utd and we got murdered, and so Edin chewed him out over being too open tells me all I need to know. he couldn't win regardless of what happened and Edin was just waiting for a reason to get rid.

There were mitigating circumstances to his sacking at Bradford, the Edin factor being the main over riding one throughout McCalls tenure. Problem is Scunthorpe are showing exactly the same form we did before Rahic sacked him. I love McCall to bits but it don't look good for him does it? Might struggle to get another management job if Scunthorpe sack him.

it doesn't look good for him, no but I feel they should stick with him, and give him chance to strengthen the team in January. if they're still in fear of the drop by February then get rid then.

Of course it's nothing to do with the man who knows football, McCall had us in the top 6 for 17 months of his 18 month tenure that should have given him a little more credit just as Julian & Mark gave Phil Parkinson, but Edin sacked him during his bad run, ironic that Grayson didn't want anything to do with our club when offered the job on a permanent basis, and Edin couldn't find a candidate from those he interviewed to offer thd job too.
Yet he gives it to two rookies, and when they can't get results appointed Hopkin who has taken 18 or so games to look like he's turning the team around.

It is partly but I'm a firm believer that everyone is responsible for the role they choose to play. If your ciulrcumstances don't allow you to show your best....move on to somewhere that does.

My point was about McCall over the course of his managerial career though. Not just with Edin alongside him.

I believe Stuart may have taken the job thinking if he did a good job maybe the ego would cut him some slack, obviously he didn't and actually got more involved, that closed season could not have been easy.
I'm not sure as a football manager you just walk away from your job, there are after all only 92 league clubs and I would think Championship and Premier would be out of the question unless it was Stuart who got the team promoted, just seems a little coincidental that the majority of things seem to have changed for the better since Stefan got rid of the only constant during our disastrous run.

During his time at Bradford City Edin was a massive factor in things both on the field and off of it, I can't see how you can discuss one without the other, McCall was sacked whilst we were in the top 6, but yes if you want to split hairs Parky left with us in 5th, but was unable to get us to Wembley with a far better squad than Mccall that Phil Parkinson had built up over several seasons.

Maybe it was better squad but if that was the case they that's a negative point on ALL the people who built it. Not sure any squad with Wyke over Proctor is actually worse though. He still left a team lower than he found them. There's no point arguing about it.

Yes, but you're focusing on one job, what about the 3 others where he also left no better off than he found them? I'm sure we can find excuses for each but it's a distinct pattern.

What was the factor last time he was here ?

I don't understand what bringing in what Phil Parkinson has done is relevant to the post I made ?.

You were highlighting that the big bad wolf was the cause of the result catastrophe in Stuart’s last few months. So what was the cause last time. And Parky has shown he can confine off the field troubles to off the field are you saying Stuart couldn’t

Yes I was, and the fact that it has taken Edin to leave the club for 3 coaches/managers to be looking as if eventually Hopkin could be turning the club around, Id suggest that alone speaks volumes of what they worked under.
A totaly different situation at Bolton for Phil Parkinson he is allowed to run the football side of ths club without outside interference, unlike our recent coaches/managers under Edin.
It has been generally accepted by the vast majority of fans and others involved with the club that in the short period Julian has run the show things are far different to when Edin was here.

Do cut out the petty little insults aimed at other posters because somebody happens to have a different opinion to you. Stick to the issue and don't direct your attack at the poster. Thanks.

So was Edin the cause of us getting to Wembley in the first season?
