Stuart McCall apprecition society

Ok, I was all for him going when he did. I wanted Simon Grayson in whilst he was still available because I'd seen how poor we'd been since mid October 2017.

In hindsight, we wouldn't have done worse under Stuart so yes he did a marvellous job in trying circumstances. However my big concern is that had Stuart not gone and Grayson not come in then McMahon would have remained "suspended" by Rahic and as a result the terrible run would have continued. Not that Grayson's form was much better.

Given a choice now, and knowing just how much of a busted flush Grayson turned out to be, I'd keep Stuart on the basis that hindsight is telling me Grayson wasn't what I expected him to be.

He got us to a play off final because he inherited the core of a very good squad left by Phil Parkinson. The likes of Meridith, Darby, McCardle, McMahon, Clarke, Hanson, Morais, Marshall. This was then improved with Cullen rejoining and Doyle coming from Blackpool plus the signings of fair players from Abbott like Vincelot, NKP , Dieng. The master stroke which was against McCalls wishes was the replacement of Hanson for Charlie Wyke who gave us the goals His strength was man management in getting the best out of Marshall. It will be interesting to see how McCall does at Scunthorpe who have lost a lot of key players and needs a rebuild.

 

Bring back Parky instead please

the more weeks go by, the more crap results we get, further shows just what an excellent job Stuart did.

 

I am with you on this and I know we will be in the minority @Rogered Tart. He did an excellent job in trying circumstances. Yes he had some very good core players left by Parky, but those players played for Stuart just the same as new players brought in. He moulded the team together and probably protected them from the worst of Edin. He did what Parky wouldn’t and that is to try and work for the good of Bradford City. Stuart knew it would extremely difficult and probably had the measure of Edin, but did it anyway. The man is absolute star in my view. Not perfect, sometimes frustrating but City through and through and I can’t thank him enough for what he did. He now needs to rescue Abbo from this nightmare.

Not so sure you will be in the minority Onside. Certainly there will be a vociferous minority (Norman et al) who will turn up with their views, but I would suggest the vast majority would agree with you and @Rogered Tart in terms of the job McCall did under what must have been trying circumstances.
As for a return, well I think that ship has sailed. But I am sure his welcome at Christmas will show just how much he was and still is appreciated.
