The Smallwood situation at the end of last season showed what happens if you don’t have strength in depth all over the pitch.

Of course some players are going to have less game time this season compared with last but then it’s up to them to show they are worthy of the shirt when the inevitable opportunity (due to injury and suspension) arises.

Can’t have the square pegs being shoehorned in to round holes scenario season after season.

 

As I said in an earlier post and as @NorthernMonkey said in an earlier post competion for spots will drive up standards.

I see a good case for all those signed to be starting, such is the level they've come from and the players we have fighting for those positions.

 

it’s a squad game just like last year all will play apart large or small

 

I hope so. No player gets his place by right and the competition should bring out the best. We need pace in the team so Steven may get the first chance.

 

We have a lot of pace in the wing backs if Richards signs again I think Kavanagh is quite quick and Pattison can shift we gets going
