I’d love Rupp to piss off, nothing personal sure he’s a nice man but he’s got no interest in football and it shows. We could get someone with half his wealth who could do a better job if they have the right vision and enthusiasm, unfortunately we do get unlucky with owners it always seems to be about surviving and watching deficits. Funny enough plenty of clubs have more debt than us and survive but are most likely investing in different aspects of the company. What are we doing? Treading water which is the second most dangerous thing you can do in football, the first is having someone batshit crazy at the wheel like Rahic, both of these things have happened with Rupp as owner.

We are now seeing the likes of Wrexham and Stockport investing more than us, and the only way they won’t over take us within the next 2 seasons will be if Adams can get us up on the cheap. I hope one day we have our moment in the sun and get a leadership other clubs are jealous of, but they don’t seem to be close by.

We are making modest profits for Rupp, why should he change anything ? If we start losing large amounts of money he will soon offload us

Early days, but I fear that this season will be a hugely frustrating one. The only thing we really seem to be lacking is that extra bit of quality up front and I think this will end up being another wasted year, for a lack of that extra bit of meaningful ambition. We keep hearing how we're far too big for this division, we have 15k at home 1-2k away every week. But what difference does it make if we're setting similar budgets to the vast majority of other clubs in the league? And I'm not talking about setting unsustainable budgets with high salary costs that put the club at risk, but surely we have the financial capability to find that extra couple of hundred grand to go and find a talented striker that adds the final piece of the jigsaw? Do it right and not only does it boost our chances of going up, maybe it leads to a profitable sell on in a year or twos time.

Hugely frustrating. I just don't see us getting out of this league until we add more quality and accept that it comes at a cost. Until our 'size' materialises in a financial advantage, then the whole 'too big for league 2' narrative is just nonsense.

I think we have enough in the squad to stay in a play off place, if so January will be very interesting, I get all this self-sufficiency stuff but Stefan has to back the manager if as I believe we will still be there or there about's.

I’d like to think Sparks has the gumption to push come Jan. We’ve a few short term contracts in the likes of lavery, Anglo and the new lad so always a place for a decent striker on a 18/30 month contract.
If Cook gets injured though before then we are buggered

The key to any team going up is goals scored. A shame we didn't get Stockton from Morecambe, he scored another top level goal yesterday and its that sort of class finishing we desperately lack. The line up we went with yesterday will not get us promoted, there's not enough goals across the team. Shut down the Cook/es and we look pretty devoid as an attacking threat, Vernam is showing good form but again doesn't offer enough goal threat.

Totally agree and although he is guilty of missing a few the lad puts a shift in against some big hairy arsed central defenders so it could quite easily happen, then we could struggle.

Agree. I also question some elements of our recruitment - for example, surely we’d have been better combining the outlay of Lavery and Robinson for one, better calibre of player? And let Scales back that player up? Angol is another example - when he signed, I assumed it was on the basis of being a cheap squaddie to back up the first 11, but the way Adams speaks it sounds like he was brought in as first choice and probably for higher wages than we think. Given his injury record, how wise was it to assume he’d be a viable, regular starter?

We’re better than last season, we’re better to watch, there’s something to build on and we’re not far away. It’s just so frustrating when a regular pattern emerges that matches what nearly all of us were saying and thinking - we’re a quality striker short. When so much effort goes into getting you a side that looks like its very nearly there, not adding that bit more looks to be a mistake to me. I think we’ll regret having not added that one quality player we need. On the plus side, I do think Cook can score goals at this level and we are creating chances for him - he needs to get that extra work in in training and sharpen up his finishing. And Vernam, and Gillead especially need to start adding more of a cutting edge.

I don't get why anyone expects the owner to fund the club. Its a business and should be self funding. We have no right to expect Rupp to put his own money in. None whatsoever.

Not asking for the earth but we are trying to show that if you invest in a decent striker you get a better return on all areas especially financially.

It’s a business that relies on its fans(customers), he may find if he doesn’t invest enough to move the club forward he’ll have to put more money in just to cover costs. It’s also not always about how much you spend but what you spend it on, look at the Leeds owner when he came in they didn’t go outspending everyone in the league they brought in the right people off field and had an identity and passion which we’ll never get under Rupp.

Not been funny but surely Adams would have asked and been told what the budget was before he took the job so no point in moaning about it now.

I think if he was offered enough to break even he’d sell in a heartbeat. Problem is he overpaid when he bought the club and he’s sitting on a sizeable loss. My only worry if Rupp sold is if Rhodes bought it.

So presuming the other income covers the rest of the costs, management, youth team, rent, rates, etc etc. The £2m you talk off is an average of about £150 per ticket. Which gives £38k a week, so yep £1500 per player but from that you have employee NICs thus reducing it down to £1300. Not sure what better striker we would get on that

I agree, to the extent that you're talking about running costs. But any business owner in any other walk of life will generally look to grow the value and assets of a business. That often needs investment.

Or to put it another way, I don't expect the owner to prop up the wage bill beyond what we can fund ourselves. But I would expect the owner to consider putting his money into transfer fees to attract talented young players with potential for higher resale value.

I suspect he'll be getting enough back, although as you say modest, to cover his costs without having to put any more in. He'll be happy to stay and wait for an offer if Sparks can keep doing that. Unfortunately for us.

The one hope i cling to, is that he may be prepared to put money in, but wants to see the club run responsibly first. Which it hasn't been for one minute, since he arrived. Until this season.

I've said it before. Rupp to Bradford City, is like what Peter Jones is to all the various businesses he funds via Dragons Den. He doesn't really care about these businesses he put money into, and he's certainly not going to be actively managing them, as he's got loads more going on in his portfolio. The reason he put cash in, is that he's hoping to get lucky and the business takes off, and he's handed a return on his investment. As long as he's not losing money, he's going to stay involved - on paper. As soon as he's losing money, or it looks like he might have to put some more in, he'll sell up and be off.

Rupps the same. I don't think we're his only investment. I'm sure he's got loads of others. Some he might even be interested in. Rahic did the Dragons Den sales pitch to him, and he invested. Didn't quite turn out like he invested, but as long as he's not losing more than he's prepared to, why not just let the club tick along incase something happens.

I feel this is why Sparks is so vocal and passionate and positive thinking about the club. He's covering up and putting glitter on, because he knows Rupp won't. I think as time goes on, Sparks will be off. Same way pointy shoes did. You can only falsely smile so much before it starts to hurt.
