I disagree that the above team looks "very strong on paper". Anderson and Akpan need replacing, as does Ismail who's not a left winger. Additionally, there are still question marks over Longridge and Everton.

Using the players that are available (so excluding Reeves and Robinson) i'd go with:

Connor Wood only gets in as he's left footed.

The team still needs a lot of work looking at that. All of our midfield bar Scannell need replacing.

Stop talking sense.

 

Josh Wright is also a former Championship player with very recent league 1 experience. It doesn't automatically make him equipped for a league 2 promotion push.

The way I see it is that we've got maybe 4 quality players in there, a lot of average ones and a few unknowns. I don't think that constitutes as being "very strong",but agree that it has the potential to be if we address key areas with sufficient quality.

 

Every team in the history of football in pre season looks strong on paper. That’s why we come back year after year.

 

Defence is still weak Paddy needs an experienced big nasty horrible *@?$ next to him.

Cannot see Reeves playing anytime soon. Reading between the lines in todays T&A, Bowyer didnt seem too confident with an imminent return to playing.

I dont think we will see him play for us for a few months at the earliest, if in fact at all again

Nevermind weak defence the midfield looks like you can drive a bus straight through it- Akpan and Anderson who struggle for fitness and form in the middle and two wingers as most of you has posted?

I am not posting a starting eleven until better players arrive.
Vaughan and Donaldson together or Doyle starting and Donaldson on the bench/rotating?
One nice problem to have.

 

Agree. Even if he was 100% match fit at the beginning of the season, don't think for a minute Bowyer would put extra pressure on him by starting him. If he does play for us again, I think he will be eased back in gently and will come on as a sub a few times before starting him is even considered.

 

Too early to predict starting X1. Would expect further movement in and out during the course of the next month

We need at least one more central midfielder, two ideally. That would be the remaining priority as we surely cannot rely on last season's misfiring misfits to collectively come good

 

2 class midfielders (one ugly, nasty bugger and a playmaker) and a left winger and I think we'll walk top 3

 

I think CM and LW are the two areas of concern now. I quite like Akpan and don’t mind Anderson but after that we are desperately short in quality. Another 1 is needed at least as Devine and Colville don’t fill me with confidence that they could cut it playing 20 games.

LW we are just totally short of options so at least 1 proper left sided player is needed.

 

That midfield is dreadful.

 

Has it even been confirmed that Colville has signed? Not seen it anywhere...
