I agree with you about change of tactics but Hughes believes in possession football and if he sticks to that he won’t sign out and out wingers

Not concerned here Jon. I do think we need to re-think the system though, but I think that’s an acceptable position to be in after only two games.

The defending was shocking yesterday but hopefully Hendrie and Osudina might help in that respect.

Still think 4-4-2 with wingers will see us get the best out of Oliver.

slow, patient, possession football doesn’t get you out of L2 and it doesn’t play to our strengths. Chapman needs to be out wide running at players.

Barrow have beaten the 2 promotion favourites in their opening 2 matches, scoring 6 goals in the process.

We know that Pete Wild is a good manager with high potential.

Barrow could well be the surprise package this season, and if they are, this result won’t seem as bad after all.

Frustrated is a good word for it.

    Frustrated and disappointed, equally.

Short term emotions, for me, that nobody remembers in the long run.

I'm definitely not unhappy with what I've seen, beyond the fact we obviously didn't start very well.

The injuries are the main concern in my eyes, all to key players so far who can all score goals - but I think we've still got enough in our squad to cope, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 come in.

Early days yet. Didn’t Wilder lose his first 5 games when he took over at Sheffield Utd in L1? Look how that turned out.

Barrow started well last season and were in and around the top 7 for the first 10 games or so but finished 22nd. I think they'll do better than that this year but don't think they'll be troubling the top 7 come the business end of the season.

Not concerned at all just think there was a lot of frustration at conceding that late :( Hughes ain’t a dummy he will know there are issues and he will know things ain’t working yet ................ just think we need at least 10 games to view the bigger picture ........... I am sure a win on Saturday will change a few people’s attitudes ............. I just had a feeling though that we would get off to a slow start so not overly supprised at the moment ......... I think for the next month or so we are gonna get a few of these games where we are off the pace :(............. but we have to be patient folk thinking that we would turn up and walk this league need to realise it’s gonna be one big battle to get out of here

Yes and goodness knows what the 'got to have it now' merchants on here, would have been saying about Jewell in September 1998, when we'd won just one out of seven, losing four of the others.

It is slightly worrying. Basically we were bullied fairly by Barrow in the second half and couldn't cope - which is nothing to do with a lack of wingers.

However, Hughes will quickly realise that Young and Hallett - who significantly were at promoted clubs last season, are a must. Now Walker is out and once Hallett's suspension is over, I'd play them both with Oliver with Chapman on the wing.

I was always underwhelmed by Angol. I just don't think he has a good game management brain, which you need for playing that role.

Onwards and upwards. At least I can go to my Stockport Office with my head held high ;)

Even if we finish 12th I wouldn't be Hughes out, a manager needs time to build something.

You have to get out of this league before worrying about what comes next. Parky could only do it via the playoffs and then we kicked on.

A couple of managers mentioned on here have all got 100% records so far and some haven’t even conceded a goal. Walsall/Leyton Orient/ Stevenage.
Yes it’s only 2 games in but we are alway making excuses for the team, again. how can all those managers get it right straight away?

Think you are right. I also think it might take 2 seasons to get it right.

I don't think 4-4-2 will get the best out of Chapman or Angol though

We need to be giving Hughes at least 2 full seasons no matter what happens this season.

It may well be that Angol's days as a wide player are over if he continues to play protecting his hamstring, as he seems to be doing. Perhaps we should just think of him as a candidate for the lone forward position, alongside Oliver, Cook and perhaps Harratt. For the wider positions we only seem to have Young and Chapman, or possibly Harratt again. And we have no replacement for Walker at all. I'd lump Smallwood, Sutton, East, Gilliead and possibly Songo'o as contenders for the two DM positions. Somehow we seem to have ended up with an unbalanced squad yet again. Much to do before the close of the window.
