As someone who tries to keep an open mind on all matters City (neither Doom-monger or a Happy Clapper), then l worry that this season is slowly sinking to a ‘nothing’.

Below is the table after roughly the same number of matches last season.
    upload_2021-11-28_13-47-43.png

Of all the clubs which got into the ‘plays offs’ or achieved automatic promotion, only Bolton were in a similar position. They were three places lower, but had that extra point.

Looking at a season earlier, we were seventh at the corresponding stage, on a healthy 34 points! The teams which were on a comparable number of points as us now, at that point all failed to even get into the play offs.
    upload_2021-11-28_13-53-17.png

l strongly suspect that we will not be able to mount a run. The next two ‘back to back’ home games are crucial. Colchester and Sutton United. No matter how you dress it up Six points are essential to try and keep this season alive. I anticipate that we will be out of the FA Cup by then. So apart from avoiding the trap door, the season will fizzle out to a nothingness!

Up to the players and Adams to sort it out.

Without the sort of ambition and spending showed by Bolton last winter - which shouldn't be above us, but clearly is - we won't be getting near those playoffs this season.

Ambition and spending Bolton only signed two players last January the rest were loans

I don't think it's about money and spending big in January if we do what they did half our team will be on loan that can't cost that much surely

Loans still cost. Whatever we do in January will be restricted by balancing the cost of any incoming with outgoings, plus whatever nominal fee we got for Crankshaw.

I think he does, but only in Jan rather than the summer. Which I understand, actually.

I'd like to see Kelleher go Hornby replaced and of we can replace Evans and Lavery with better we'd be there or thereabouts but getting better is obviously the challenge

I very much fear that you are right. A side can afford one 'meh' 10-match segment and still make the autos, let alone playoffs, but we are about to have a second such, even if we beat Colchester. Eventually the gap to the leading pack just becomes too big to overcome.

At the moment, we would need to win 3 in a row just to get back on the 69-point, Ronnie Brown 'Comfort' pace, which can get you into the playoffs. That's not unreasonable. But to get back on the guaranteed playoff pace, we would need to win 6 in a row, and to get onto the guaranteed autos pace, we would need to win 13 in a row. And then, of course, we would need to maintain such paces. (Granted these are the *guaranteed* autos/playoffs paces, not the minimums needed.)

The side as it stands is just not capable of that, alas. Like many others before the season started, I bemoaned the weakness in the scoring department -- even with Cook returning we did not replace the goals we lost from players leaving, and, in general, those who have stayed have not picked up their scoring prowess. Couple that with an inability to keep clean sheets, and we are where we are.

The most worrying point is from two years ago, where Macclesfield had one point less than we have now and went down after finishing second bottom.

    I don’t.

It was clear in the summer we lacked quality and we should have used the loan market to get better in.

    Bit too late in Jan.

Not sure if that's the cast Steve, he did say he preferred to take loan players in the January window as he believed before the season starts many are not match fit and they are then playing catch up.

There's no getting away from the fact that this has been a disappointing season for you so far. I thought you'd be title challengers and I put a lot of money on you ante-post. Most of my optimism was based on Derek Adams arriving at the club. It isn't a myth that he has won promotion from this division twice, it's a fact. If I thought a new manager replacing Adams would increase Bradford City's promotion chances this season I'd be for sacking him. But I believe Derek Adams offers the best hope for success in 2021-2 and if it doesn't happen this time I'll be backing you again for 2022-23 providing Derek Adams is still in charge and I have some spondulicks left. If you could just turn a few of those draws into wins it would help.

He also said in that interview on Yorkshire Sports Daily we signed players who we knew had passed injury problems it was a risk we were prepared to take, and to be fair a fit Angol & Canavan are very good players at this level.

So far the Angol injury had cost us no doubt, he and Cook looked a good pairing at the start of the season and at both Tranmere and yesterday Angol looked the best option up top, once Cook is fit again lets hope they can pick up where they left of I'm sure that's what all Bradford City fans want isn't it.
