Should we be thinking about extending Graham Alexander’s contract?

Not sure I can agree with that, other than Cook not been in the team he had more or less the exact same squad for the first game against MK Dons as he did for two of our best performances against Grimsby and Walsall in January. I'd say the style of play was chalk and cheese between the two sets of teams despite the same players. A lot of the January players weren't really introduced until February onwards when injuries kicked in.

 

People can be unhappy, but constantly changing managers is the problem.

In my opinion, a manager needs 2 years before he can be properly judged. Especially, and i can't emphasise this enough ESPECIALLY when there's a change of playing style.

You couldn't expect Pep to come in and play with this team and win. It would take a few transfer windows. Which it has with Graham.

Calling for sacking a manager who has had good runs and has a bit of credit in the bank is moronic. Let's not dress it up mate. He deserved this full season. As much and if not more than any of our previous managers.

For the record i was against sacking hughes too.

 

So GA wouldn't even be in charge if you had your way? Sometimes it is just needed. I agree to a point you can't keep doing it, but no one would have batted an eye lid had he been sacked after Notts County and maybe the new guy would have gone on this run and looked like a genius. It's a bit like the Cook debate atm, we all have our opinions, but that is all they are. There's no need for I told you so's and basically calling fans thick for a reasonable opinion, hindsight notwithstanding.

 

If we go up I'd offer to extend his deal by a year. That would give him 2 years in League 1 to prove he can push us near the top of that division.

If we don't go up this season then no contract extension and he gets one last bite at the cherry.

Those are my thoughts anyway.

I agree. This seems a largely sensible and pragmatic approach.

 

I think we should be thinking about him getting out us out of this god awful division.... then maybe.... then we talk about contract extensions and enhancements. We will never have had a better chance to go up than this year.... He has bumbled slightly into tactics that has worked with Cooky going off and Bobby coming of age etc.... he does like putting players in strange positions. Wright is doing better Ala ....broken conk playing up frontish... he is not a full back ...

 

Would like to see us offer a 1 year rolling contract. Guarantees both sides a year. He’s earned that trust. Best manager since Parky.

I'm not sure who would go for him tbh.

He's never managed above L1, and not had 'success' since his Salford promotion in 2018/19ish.

If we were to go up, I don't know where he'd go. Can't imagine a Champ club looking at him so a L1 move wouldn't make a lot of sense.

 

I'm not buying that first line. He was publicly not our first choice, and I don't believe anyone a few weeks in knew he was the right man.

 

Agreed. If we were a small club it might be different. But I think that if GA gets us up (and it’s still a big ‘if’ in my book) he’ll want to stay and help realise our potential. You could tell from his post match interview that he was blown away by the atmosphere and crowd size against Colchester. He’ll want to be part of more of those days with bigger crowds in a higher division. I think it would take a massive financial offer that he couldn’t refuse to lure him away.

 

I can not see anyone in league one currently that GA would be of interest to, or if he would be interested in them
You can never say never and money talks in football but we have more potential than most at the lower level
