The average salary for a Championship footballer is around £15k/week, so roughly £60k/month. £2,500 is quite a difference for a Championship footballer.

Hi Frank. But aren't we talking about the players at City? They will not be on anything like that and my comments were that if the club were unable to pay their wages (unlike Leeds players who have apparently foregone theirs) then they would be guaranteed £2.5k per month at least.
Of course this amount is a lot less to take if you are a Championship player!!

I think the average League 2 wage is just over £1000/week but I'd imagine our wage bill is above average. So you're talking about a 50% pay cut for some players. I'm not sure I could afford to take that much of a cut.

It's a tricky one, the 80% thing still isnt clear according to my employer. Not sure if it only applies to those on a temporary layoff, those who are sent home for 12 weeks on medical advice or anyone given time off due to COVID-19.

The government pays 80% to empoyees who cannot work due to the virus. The club (employer) pays the remainder ie 20%. The players don't lose out and the club saves.
This is sorted out by the employer.

They would be OK with 80% from the government plus the remaind

"FLEETWOOD PLACE ALL NON-PLAYING STAFF ON FURLOUGH LEAVE
According to Fleetwood Today, the Cod Army have placed all non-playing staff on furlough leave in a cost-cutting measure.
That includes Joey Barton and his coaching staff, with staff expected to be phased back into full time employment once the players return to training".

So it can be done Frank, saving the club money.

Sounds made up to me. If not, the player is very contradictory. Despite him claiming to have given away all his wages for the last 3 years, because he thinks footballers are paid far too much, I bet he still acquired the fancy house, cars and jewellery etc from earnings from the previous 15 years or so.

To be honest, I couldnt get to the end of the article, it was so poorly articulated

he openly admits that he bought the house and stuff earlier in his career. He said it cost him 20weeks wages to buy his house and cars
