If you search this forum you will find that @wetherbywhaler has more than adequately answered this previously. The reasons that certain people are able to be part of the matchday attendance at elite football matches has also been covered. In a sentence, under the rules agreed between the government, FA and EFL, a set number of representatives, from each club are allowed to attend each match (almost as witnesses) and it seems logical that those places would be offered up to directors.
Personally, I welcome the insights @wetherbywhaler brings by being able to provide additional information, over and above what we can pick up from iFollow.
I should also add that radio commentators are allowed to travel; it's the BBC that decided on the current approach.
EDIT: I see @bantamdave41 has pretty much covered your question as well.

You could become an associate director if you wanted, just stump up the cost, I'm sure @wetherbywhaler could get you the details and cost for yourself, or if your really flushed you and the wife.Kevin1954, Meltham Massive, Stoneski and 1 other person like this. -

Rules all over restricting movement and way of life for the vast majority. A disease which kills and inadvertently, a director or whomever at any club, could pass it on.
I've nowt against WW or any other such person but I'm against rules, which don't sit for the majority.JudgeMental, Chipolata, Loyalbantam and 1 other person like this. -
I wonder if we can keep that ban in place when the restrictions are lifted?

Let's take tonight's game. An Orient director attends. Why? What purpose does he/she serve in attendance at that particular game in enabling its participation?NorthernMonkey, The Original EB and Bronco like this. -

Also, admittedly I haven't tried during the second lockdown but during the first, getting an online shopping delivery was seemingly impossible.
The point is that in the days that two friends were fined for grabing a coffee and traveling a few miles for a walk in a very secluded area we then allow people with no specific football role at clubs to travel hundreds of miles up and down the motorways every game day.
This isn't a dig at WW by the way, it's a dig at the rules that, to me, are completely contradictory.bantamdave41, WilsdenBantam and Offcomedun like this. -
@wetherbywhaler does have an official role at the club, among other things he handles any disciplinary procedures and appeals for the club,

During this lockdown we would love to walk in the hills surrounding Edinburgh but are not allowed to travel outside the city boundary.

Are clubs not required to send a certain number of representatives who aren't directly involved in the match for it to even be considered valid. I'm sure I read that in somewhere like the Athletic when there was a discussion when football first returned about who would be allowed to attend matches
