If you search this forum you will find that @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler has more than adequately answered this previously. The reasons that certain people are able to be part of the matchday attendance at elite football matches has also been covered. In a sentence, under the rules agreed between the government, FA and EFL, a set number of representatives, from each club are allowed to attend each match (almost as witnesses) and it seems logical that those places would be offered up to directors.

Personally, I welcome the insights @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler brings by being able to provide additional information, over and above what we can pick up from iFollow.

I should also add that radio commentators are allowed to travel; it's the BBC that decided on the current approach.

EDIT: I see @bantamdave41@bantamdave41 has pretty much covered your question as well.

You could become an associate director if you wanted, just stump up the cost, I'm sure @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler could get you the details and cost for yourself, or if your really flushed you and the wife.

That's not envy. Don't be so fecking stupid.

Rules all over restricting movement and way of life for the vast majority. A disease which kills and inadvertently, a director or whomever at any club, could pass it on.

I've nowt against WW or any other such person but I'm against rules, which don't sit for the majority.

Every cloud has a silver lining.
I wonder if we can keep that ban in place when the restrictions are lifted?
Just a thought (and a fervent prayer)

Well even if they allow the commentators back, you can always choose the other teams commentary from the options, something I will definitely do now

I wouldn't say he's the only buffoon in Westminster by a long shot, but he's certainly the biggest.

You have to ask, what purpose do they serve when at a game? In what capacity do they facilitate the game being played?
Let's take tonight's game. An Orient director attends. Why? What purpose does he/she serve in attendance at that particular game in enabling its participation?

People need exercise to help avoid a whole host of physical and mental issues. That's just not a very sensible comparison at all.

Also, admittedly I haven't tried during the second lockdown but during the first, getting an online shopping delivery was seemingly impossible.

The point is that in the days that two friends were fined for grabing a coffee and traveling a few miles for a walk in a very secluded area we then allow people with no specific football role at clubs to travel hundreds of miles up and down the motorways every game day.

This isn't a dig at WW by the way, it's a dig at the rules that, to me, are completely contradictory.

@wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler does have an official role at the club, among other things he handles any disciplinary procedures and appeals for the club,

I’m wasting my breath. There’s millions of people currently being forced to sacrifice their freedom and here we have a select, privileged few exploiting government loopholes, travelling hundreds of miles for non essential reasons whilst apparently not illegal it most certainly is morally wrong. That’s my point of view whether you agree or disagree with it

So just for the record @Bronco@Bronco if someone wealthy was willing to give BCFC some cash, should that enable them to circumvent the restrictions and attend events that are inaccessible to everyone else? Just interested

I'm not defending wetherbywhaler he is far more competent to do that than me, and I see where some are coming from, I do believe we have far more serious questions to debate but that does not mean fans shouldn't question the situation.

Not sure I agree, Its not essential fans see the game but is essential the club is officially represented at the match with an authorised FA official usually a club director,
I suppose it depends how you define essential

Surely that authorised official is Ryan Sparks. Unless something has changed recently the Associate Directors are not on the Bradford City board and it is merely an honorary title.
During this lockdown we would love to walk in the hills surrounding Edinburgh but are not allowed to travel outside the city boundary.
I can understand Loyal Bantams points about unnecessary travel.

I'm not saying I agree with non essential representatives attending games, but I believe @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler already answered that in an earlier thread. I believe he said that hospitality is currently limited to tea and biscuits at half time.

Are clubs not required to send a certain number of representatives who aren't directly involved in the match for it to even be considered valid. I'm sure I read that in somewhere like the Athletic when there was a discussion when football first returned about who would be allowed to attend matches

Money is not the point here, it’s non essential travel for a football club director to travel up and down the country for no other reason but to socialise with other directors. So I’d like an explaination from @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler why he thinks his travel to away games is essential and why it should be allowed?
