Are you sure that the EFL has the power to suspend the Owls from the Championship simply because the EFL 'don't think' they have the money to complete the season? It would be a huge step for the EFL to do that and I don't believe they have the powers to do it without a change of ownership. What's more likely is that the EFL use the money due to the Owls from solidarity payments and TV rights to pay the club's football creditors, including players, and create some breathing space for the club and then hope(!) that a new owner emerges from somewhere. That's still a huge risk for the EFL's standing if it all goes tits up.

Whatever I may think about Chansiri's antics, it says much about the EFL's lack of governance that it's come to this at such a late stage and they have little in their locker to change things.

The EFL will be asking Sheffield Wednesday for lots of financial information that they will use to establish if there is a realistic option of completing the season so there will be evidence to back it up. The solidarity payments and TV rights won't go very far, current estimates for the TV money for the Championship is up to £6m per year plus a bit extra each time they are on TV, solidarity payments are £5m so £11m in total which will go very quickly especially with so many debts to pay off.
It's looking a very similar situation to Bury where the EFL can only do so much to force a sale, ultimately if Chansiri doesn't want to sell the EFL don't have the power to force him to sell, all they can do is disqualify him as a director of a football club but all that does is just puts pressure on him to sell.
The problem football will always have is the leagues are really just competition organisers controlled by the members which are the clubs and it's a big reason by real effective financial rules won't be passed as clubs won't agree to them like we are seeing in the Premier League with clubs refusing to ban selling women's teams to a sister company to get around PSR.

It's a moot point whether a Championship club has to supply any financial 8nformation to the EFL other than in two specific cases. Firstly as evidence, but only after the event, that the club has complied with the PSR rules. That's irrelevant in this case. Secondly, prior to a takeover when the new owner has to provide in essence, a business plan for the future. Again, that's not the case here. As you suggest, there's little the EFL can do to force a sale.

When PSR was reviewed earlier ti's year, I don't recall any suggestion that the fundamentals should change. In particular, despite some misgivings from the EFL, there was little appetite from the clubs that they should provide more financial information in the short term. That's the lesson which should have been learned from Bury but the club's would never support it.

I suspect Chansiri's lawyers will know exactly what the EFL can and can't demand from him. I really hope that a new owner rides over the horizon but time is very tight now.

    Shortest contract ever...
Maybe he knows they won't be paid at the end of next week?

There’s something really really odd at play here. Why on earth would Bannon re-sign ? I just don’t get it.

Just picked this up from the BBC sport app .

“And it is an ongoing issue in the second tier of English football, in the sense that average losses are £400,000 per WEEK ! “

Will be interesting to see what happens this afternoon with regards to protests in the stands from Wednesday fans.

Can see them getting utterly mullered today, 6 or 7 perhaps.

Cruel irony that a lot of their fans missed their goal due to a lot them being stuck outside because of overcrowding in the concourse but I'm sure they will get over it very quickly as it's the least of their worries in the grand scheme of things.

I think their starting 11 is ok so I don't think they will get hammered or at least early on in the season they won't. When they get further into the season and suspensions/injuries happen I think then they will really struggle as that will be when the. Luckily they have a Carabao Cup game on Wednesday so Bannan will only be suspended for that game rather than a league game

In the office today and talking to a mate who is a Wednesday season ticket holder. He has his ST in the condemned stand they have and still they have no idea where they are supposed to be sitting on saturday. Another thing to add to the shambles pile!

The council have given the go ahead for the stand to open. I wouldn't blame any fans if they are sceptical about it and don't trust the council

Bit of good news for them tonight and a bit of a cash injection coming their way with beating Bolton tonight to set up a home tie with Leeds

But with stands not having safety licences the capacity will be reduced, plus segregating the Leeds fans.

Haven't the council given the government ahead on the stands now?

Wednesday just knocked Weeds out of the League Cup. 3-0 on penalties. Excellent.

Looks like they are going to have to resort to free agents if they are going to bring anyone in as the EFL have vetoed the loan deals they had in place.
