getting in the northern ireland team is not a measure of how good a player you are ,more how poor they are .

 

Well I like him, you can see potential provided he is playing in his preferred position. He should get plenty of game time which he will benefit from. The owners want attacking football, he is an attacking player. When McCall played him in a threesome up front, he looked really good. He is most certainly not a utility player, but I personally think we have not seen the best of this lad yet. I am not at all surprised he has been called up, and it will do loads for his confidence.

 

Let’s be fair, he’s only in the squad because Lafferty, Washington, Ward and Grigg were all missing.

Would he have even come on a sub, had Boyce not picked up an injury? He didn’t feature against Panama

I’m all for offering praising, but let’s not go OTT when other factors are involved.

 

There is a player in Mcarten - next season is pivotal in his career. Hopefully he will show us what he can do.

I’ve not written him off. There is a good player in him just needs to find his confidence. We’ve seen it in flashes last season. Let’s hope he’s settled and we see it more often next season.

If you're good enough to get into a team that pushed Germany all the way in qualifying and missed out of qualifying for their 2nd major tournament in a row because of an awful refereeing decision then why haven't you made it as a professional player who easily get into any league 1 side at least. If it's that easy to get into their squad you have to question why McArdle only has 7 caps for them.

 

He's not a winger or a centre forward.

He needs to play as a no. 10.

Stuart tried him their at the start of last season and soon abandoned the idea because he wasn't good enough.

He needs the whole team building around him.

Cannot see it happening.

 

In fairness to McCartan, after his goal at Fleetwood, his record was 3 goals in 3 starts when playing with Wyke. I do feel sorry for him a bit given that his other chances have come when playing with one of Patrick, Jones and gilliead.

I agree though, he is someone who needs a team building around him. But I'm just not sure he's a good enough player to be doing that for.
