He was really poor 1st half, looked like some of his previous performances. Picked up a little in the 2nd half, got his goals but he only got the MOTM because of his goals. I don't think he was that good but does need to keep going to try get a spot in the team. Personally I think he's had enough chances over his time to prove himself but hasn't really got there.

RE the lack of an energetic RB, a few fans seem to think Tony McMahon might have been at the game the other day. He used to love to get forward, though I dunno if his legs have gone nowadays.Ollylondonbantam likes this. -

That'll be why the Ginger Wizard is the boss and not me or my fellow City fans around me who thought the same.

Wasn't loaned out, i.e. loan cancelled under Lincoln's manager and played a major part in their promotion
John Coleman, no fool, speaks highly of him - perhaps appreciate the galvanising affect a younger McCartan had in taking his team from bottom, around now, to just outside the play-offs
I don't think we can properly judge players who've played for us since August 2017. We've not had one success during that time - even Jack Payne and Lewis O'Brien eventually succumbed to the meandering standard we had
And strangely enough a lot of players who have underperformed, improved immediately when they left the club, as shown when Doyle left and O'Brien
If one player underperforms, I'd look at that player - when it's half a dozen or more there's clearly been an issue
McCartan's been given little chance to shine under any of his previous City managers. Even McCall made him the scapegoat for that Northampton farce, a month before he was sacked, when he'd been arguably the best player in very good wins against Oxford and Accrington - as I said, there is no way Stuart was thinking clearly at this time, which of course wouldn't help a young player who needs good management. Grayson, was the biggest disappointment I can remember since Terry Yorath had the role and clearly (see Blackpool's forum) has lost all his man-management skills because he thinks he's bigger than L1
Add all that up and there's a very good L2 player in there, who could perform at L1 (lacks pace for any higher) who, if we give up on, will simply pop up and look a million dollars elsewhere. Not only can I see Stuart improving him, but I can see Shay wanting to stay regardless of where we arehippo likes this. -

So what? I'm pretty certain that Henley's played 90 minutes, every time he's started - does that make him one of our best players this season?
You're not judged on the number of minutes on the pitch, you're judged by the positive impact you make whilst been on the pitch
McCartan certainly has some fitness issues, given his age and the position he plays (where you get the most of the knocks) his body is still probably growing into the physicality needed. It's noticeable that a lot of players seem to have better fitness as they get older (Danny Ings) and often have irritating niggles which end up with them missing more than a few matches (Kane (before this season) / Rashford)
Again I'm not making excuses for McCartan's lack of progress - just giving reasons, based on evidence on how other youngish footballers and other sportsman cope with the increased demand on their bodies (mens tennis is now more or less officially a sport you excel in once you reach 25, back in the 90's that was considered over the hill)
It was interesting that McCall said he took him off, because he lacks a bit of sharpness - but it could be he's just one of those players who is good for 80 minutes, until his body behaves betterDamo likes this. -
Your not making excuses for him?? That's exactly what your doing. With regards fitness he was subbed in 21 league games - you would have thought he would do something about that if he is to have a longer career.
I'm out - he's an ok League 2 player.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Rogered Tart likes this. -
I believe Shay has a doctored heart monitor and GPS tracker in his vest, how a 22 year old can't do 90 minutes is beyond belief.
I'm not the biggest McCartan fan but after his 2 goals on Tuesday night (which should in all honesty have been a hat-trick) I can't see why McCall would leave the lad out of the starting 11.
Same back 4 although I could see Stuart bringing Paudie in at the expense of BRE, Reeves, Devitt and Pritchard with DMH, McCartan and Novak the front 3.WilsdenBantam likes this. -
