Think his contribution to keep us over the last 10 games of the 96/97 was underated ...........had a feeling that the team with Waddle in was getting sussed because the team was over reliant on him

 

Getting sussed? Waddle was pinched by Forest because he was absolutely tearing up the division!

 

No one could blame him for jumping at the chance for joining his boyhood club, but as you say we can dream of "what if" he'd stayed, the man was a legend in the few games he played with us , the man was a class act.

 

It was a privilege to watch him. He could just drag the ball up the touchline and work space from nothing. He could leave a player on his a#se like he had some kind of force field around him

 

Everyone knew what he was about to do but that little drag back, even though everyone knew it was coming, could still beat every single full back and winger that tried to stifle him.

All without any pace whatsoever. I've honestly never seen pure ability like it in claret and amber.

 

He was literally magic

 

Apparently Stanley Matthews was the same - only ever did one trick but it was so good that it virtually always worked. Beags was similar.

 

Beags was a class act but so frustrating at times, I could never imagine him and Bobby Capmbell playing together, Bobby making the run into the box and Beages skinning the full back once more for good measure not putting the cross on, I'd have thought Bobby would have been waiting for Beages coming back into the dressing room at half time .

 

He could be frustrating, But he was exciting to watch. I remember the away game at QPR in the promotion season - he had their right back on toast the whole game.

 

He was one of those 'worth the admission fee' players. Only Robbie Blake in my lifetime had the same flair.
