Sexual Assault Convictions

We all make mistakes. Some of those mistakes challenge our morals in the cold light of day, but he hasn't done anything serious enough to deprive him of his livelihood. We've had real fan favourites who've done much worse.

 

Before we sign him, nd the self righteous mob have heart attacks, let's just compare what he did to get a conviction against what worshipped, legend and member of our PL heroes team, Peter beagrie, did to get his conviction.

 

We arnt really in a position to be picky at moment if he improves us and drags us out of the relegation scrap then that’s fine by me! Am sure if it was a normal person in a nightclub there wouldn’t of been a mention of it but soon as it’s a footballer everybody jumps on it. End of day he’s just a young man and we all make mistakes

 

How many of us never made a stupid drunken mistake in our very early 20s?

 

It's not about being self righteous though. We as a club have had to deal with the ramifications of a player arrested for a sexual offence, admittedly a much more serious one, and now we appear to be linked to another player currently on the sex offenders register.

Dont think it will go down well with a lot of fans, especially female fans

 

And no ones ever done that have they ?

 

Lots of people get drunk and do stupid things but not many end up on the sex offender register.clubs go on about doing due diligence and checking players character. If the club do that and feel that this was a one of from a guy with an otherwise good character fair enough but a bad apple can easily upset the apple cart. Further more whilst some on here would overlook anything there are others who’s opinion counts just as much who don’t

 

Not sure who made the point, but it was best put that everyone can make a mistake, it’s when it happens a second time it becomes a problem.
Beagrie has been mentioned, there are others who have been idolised and done worse also!

 

I'm glad I not twenty years old in 2021. I used to go out when I was twenty, have a few drinks and a laugh and chat up birds (can't even say that now). They gave as good as they got. Many laughed at my "I bet a quid I can touch your tits with my hands in my pockets". "Ok (feels said tit with hand), was well worth a quid....." That sort of banter got a laugh and sometimes more if I played my cards right. OFC I don't know the situation with what happened, but to get put on the SO register and have a 6 months suspended sentence...it must have been a bit more serious than just a drunken attempted feel up. All I can say - I'm glad the Chippendale boys don't press charges - there would be outrage at what I've heard goes on at those do's!

 

I'm not dismissing the incident. Though its important to note that he maintains that his guilty plea was on the basis of legal advice and that he 'maintains his innocence'. One incident of this apparent nature doesn't necessarily reflect his character and shouldn't be an obstacle to him earning a living. The world is a different place now to when I was in my early 20s - which would have been 20 years ago. I remember on more than one occasion being grabbed by the bum or crotch, in a bar or club. I wouldn't have expected the other party to be added to a sex offenders list. Similarly, one of my daft 'pick up tricks' when I was younger was a bit risqué, involved a 'magic trick' and a bit of touching. It was intended to be light hearted and cheeky, not abusive. The majority of the time it landed comically, though i once got a slap. Point being, if it were to happen now I could very easily of ended up on a similar list myself.

We simply don't know the detail or context around what happened, but we're clearly not talking about a serious sexual attack.

I see no reason why we should be in the business of taking a morally superior assessment of our incoming signings. Some things are clearly so serious that I can understand why people would take a principled objection to a signing, but for the most part we need to understand that people make mistakes, especially in our youth, and people have a right to move on and learn.

Virtually everyone who grabbed what was 'available' for the last song in VIPs back in the 80s would be on that register now. As for the Pile Bar, and what went on at the fanny by gaslight sessions in the Bradfordian (beehive) they would probably mean prison as well.

I don't want to make light of these things, but boy has the world changed, back in.my day there were plenty of predatory women as well.

 

Hahaha, seems we used to have the same tricks up our sleeve. Did you try the "I heard women can't touch both hands behind their backs", thus making the girl reach over her shoulder, jutting out her chest in the process. Makes me cringe now ofc, and I'm not condoning any sort of sexual predator/domination sort of behaviour, and of course I hope the girl involved didn't suffer any mental anguish after the event. I'm just saying that it seems a tricky world to live in these days -although I still have a laugh and a wink with girls now, and those that are sound of mind and not overly affected by social media, and actually have a brain in their heads, know that its all harmless flirting and they do the same! I was reading some reviews about the "Pile Bar" in Bradford on a great FB page called "Bradford Clubs/Pubs past and present", and most of the comments by blokes was how sore their nuts were after walking through the back room, due to them getting groped and squeezed by girls (more likely older than girls) on the way to the bar.

Anyway, I'm not going to judge him until he's signed up for us and having a shocker. Then I'll give him both barrels!

 

Historically I think most people have been able to take a reasonable view of incidents that might be considered risqué and light hearted to some but offensive to others, and separate them from genuinely serious, malicious acts of abuse. But the lines are genuinely more blurred now, than ever before.
