I'm with you all the way RT (I think ? ;) ). However - YES the players do try and involve fans in celebration - YET, by the same token, those players do not enter / encroach the supporters domain within the arena. Those players that have crossed 'that line' have been punished, in recent times, even without malice or aggression.

Such is Social activity and behaviour these days, the gap between acceptable and forbidden is ever closer, almost razor edged. I only hope common sense from the EFL (perspective) and our own supporters (rules) prevails, over the coming weeks.
IF supporters continue to push their luck, and the boundaries against the system, yes the game WILL become more sanitised. It is down to self policing .......... Or else the EFL, and authorities will do that for us.

By and large unless it is a high profile game we don't have Police inside the ground unless they are called for. This represents a significant cost saving to the Club and was put in place some years ago on the back of our excellent record on crowd trouble which is now being eroded.
There were actually five Stewards and one Steward Supervisor, not as you say. I have the DVD and have personally counted them as part of my work for the FA submission.

Sorry ........... But is that an excuse, or a valid reason for fans to justify their poor actions ?

You’ve taken the post completely out of context. My post referred to the fact that despite a limited number of stewards and no police at no point was there ever any danger in that incident, i know i was about 20 feet away. I get it, you have rules to adhere to. My whole correspondance to this post is the complete over reaction to what was an emotional moment, i’m sure your DVD will show you that. And yes, i was at the Rochdale game, and the incidents was as far apart as you could possibly get. Maybe to help, next time tell the players stay away from fans and tell the stewards to do their job.

Poir actions? They celebrated a goal with the players, it was a very emotionally charged atmosphere. It wasn’t Scotland fans breaking the goalposts at Wembley. I know rules state they shouldn’t have done it, but sod it. We’ve had bugger all to cheer this season.

I think there are quite a few posters missing the point. This is not about whether or not we, as individuals, feel that this was just a few people harmlessly getting caught up in the moment, celebrating the goal; it is about the risk to the Club, as a result of any action by the football authorities.

In light of recent incidents, elsewhere, the spotlight is clearly on encroachment onto the pitch (and surrounds) and, rightly or wrongly, even seemingly innocent incidents may well result in fines, points deductions, part closure of stands, additional barriers having to be installed etc.

Therefore, to protect themselves, as much as possible, the Club has to be seen to be taking action. In the statement issued, by the Club, it does not say that those involved will be banned for 3 years, only that they "could". It is possible, for example, that the Club could issue 3 year bans and then suspend them.

As for whether or not this was just a bit of harmless exuberance and something that shouldn't be 'punished', well I think some people on here are directing their criticism in the wrong direction. The Club are caught between a rock and a hard place; if you want to criticise, try the FA/EFL.

I understand the clubs position, they have rules to adhere to. Every ground you go to there are signs saying it as an offence to encroach on the pitch. There isn’t anything said in this thread that i don’t understand or already know.

It strikes me that if someone is charged with an incident, then they should be invited to meet with the club, to explain their behaviour and their intentions for the future. If they have a history of offending, then that would have to be taken into consideration.
If this is a first recorded incident and they appear contrite and give assurances that it will not happen again, then perhaps the equivalent of a ‘suspended sentence’ would be a balanced and proportionate way forward.

Noted Rod. We know who we want to speak to (if they are at the Blackpool game). Sadly as we know from the past some don't heed warnings but we shall see.

You see another area where this Peterborough incident seems like utter bollocks is the fact the referee reported the incident yet didn't book any of our players. Isn't the rule that if a player goes too far into the fans to celebrate, he gets a booking?

So he can't say I won't punish the players for leaving the pitch but I'll recommend the FA punish the fans for not entering the pitch. Double standards.

I wouldn’t like to be in Blackpools shoes after their pitch invasions at the Southend game. I’m expecting the book to be thrown at them.

Roger, I assume the stewards who were present will receive some sort of punishment too? After all they did very little to stop anyone in that situation, with two of them even turning their backs and standing well away.

What about the people running the show? Do the stewards get adequate training? Didn’t look like it judging by how they dealt with the situation. How much are the players culpable in this? Should they be told what is acceptable when celebrating with fans?
