    Full post below:

When I was at Bradford City, I made one of the biggest mistakes of my career when it came to fitness. I did no running in the off-season, thinking I could just switch it on when pre-season came around. I was chilling, enjoying life, and then, ten days before I was due back, I decided to take a little trip to Dubai.

And let me tell you I had the time of my life. Partying, late nights, good food, and not a single thought about football. I kept telling myself, "I'll be fine when I'm back." The problem?

I landed back on the morning of pre-season training, straight off the plane and onto the pitch. No sleep, no fitness just vibes.

It was a disaster. I was an absolute embarrassment finishing dead last in the running, even behind the goalkeepers! My legs felt like lead, and reality hit me hard. But somehow I still ended up getting a move to Blackpool, a league above.

Honestly, to this day, I don't know how I pulled that off, but big credit to my agent he worked absolute wonders to make that happen.

But that season at Blackpool? It was a nightmare. I couldn't get in the squad, I was picking up injuries left, right, and center, and instead of owning up to it, I blamed everyone the managers, the fitness coaches, the physios. In my head, it was all their fault. But deep down, I knew it was on me. I hadn't put the work in, and I paid the price for it.

And it didn't just stop there it followed me for years. Even when I went to Grimsby, I was still struggling with injuries because I didn't do things right when it mattered most. That lack of preparation didn't just cost me a season it set me back for years.

Football doesn't wait for anyone. You can't just turn up and expect to perform. You have to put the work in consistently.

Take it from me, stay ready, stay fit, and don't let your chance pass you by.

Enjoy your time off, but don't get it twisted football will always expose you if you're not prepared.

Just searched out the where are they now element.

Since 2020 he made 25 appearances for Grimsby over 3 seasons. Then to Hornchurch who were in the isthmian league. That is a heck of a fall

That can't be the only thing. Why did he end up with us in the first place? He'd obviously let himself down at a higher level. He's clearly an unprofessional player that winged it for a while and his body caught up with him. He carried on with his behaviour right down tho the non league level.

Saw Scannell playing for Hornchurch last season v Dulwich Hamlet. Scored in a lucky 3-2 win. Hornchurch went on to win the league and he's a regular in NL South. Mark Marshall is currently at The Hamlet but struggling for game time in a poor Isthmian League side. Generally an unused sub.
