So despite moving to struggling Colchester (where he has been joined by Fiacre Kelleher and Connor Wood), Hornby still cannot lock down a regular first team place.

It looks like a slight injury let Kieran O'Hara into the team, and he's run with it - and Colchester have won three of their last four games!

    Poor Sam.

A bit like Connor, not a bad player, but not great - still, good luck to Sam, all he's ever wanted is an extended run as number one, but can't seem to make it a reality...

Strange that considering he was "miles better" than a bloke with around 350 league appearances to his name.

It's a tough gig being a keeper, there's only room for one in a team at a time and if that's not you then you're waiting for the guy in front of you to get injured or lose form. I don't think Sam let anyone down whilst he was with us but I never felt that he made any great saves and I think most of his popularity was to do with him not being called Richard O'Donnell.

I went all Derek Adams on the goalkeeping stats from the Trueman/Sellars era at the end of the 20/21 season when Hornby broke in to the first team, I don't have the spreadsheet anymore but IIRC they were pretty equal in terms of minutes/games per goal conceded, however, ROD was well ahead when it came to shots faced per goal, xg per goal and I think also when it came to clean sheets per shot/xg. Hornby had the big advantage of playing most of his games behind a defensively solid back four of AOC, POC, Cannavan, Wood whereas ROD played most of his games behind weaker back 4's.

    I can believe it.

I doubt anyone did any digging on Rouven's stats, but at one point he was the next Peter Schmeichel according to some fans.
