Terrible player. He slows the match down when it needs to be faster and runs down culdesacs when he should be passing. I feel harsh criticising him as he's not a central midfielder but as he's played there all season then we judge him as one.

He also doesn't know when he needs to move back and give the central defenders a pass out. This is part of the problem. They pass back and forth because the central midfielders aren't showing for the ball. Useless tactics.

 

Hughes really needs to get a response this second half, we look worse than a pub team. He should get Banks ,Young and East on from the start. Smallwood is a massive disappointment for me as his experience was meant to be of value.

just looked far too slow in midfield with this set up again. No service upfront.

 

Not quite sure why Hughes was giving the ref stick. He needs to be looking much closer to home

 

Salford are garbage and we couldn’t penetrate them??

Just got Radio Leeds on and Gary Jones is bang on too predictable striker off and replaced with another like for like etc, I'll listen to what Sparkie has to say about tonight's miserable performance.

 

Gary Jones says Hughes will be massively disappointed but he picked the same defenders and 2 holding pedestrian midfielders.

 

Unless the tactics change and we find a way of creating more scoring opportunities then I’m afraid this season will fall away once the away wins dry up.
The only player worthy of partnering Cook or Oliver up front is no longer at the club.

Hes really not getting it.

Asked about formation (hint hint more than one sole front man) he talks about passing it quicker as main issue

He really didn't like it when asked about young and Sutton left out and after going out less chance for game time for them

Very unconvincing interview which has been same of late. Saying same all the time there's more to come we will get better. Talks as though we're only a few weeks into the season.

Mark Hughes Masterclass.

Almost as impressive as him not substituting players who are playing poorly because that might hurt their feelings.

As a perennial lower league supporter it's tough getting used to these Premier League management methods, but I trust that him having those previous jobs guarantees everything will turn out ok in the end.

 

I actually think it’s the two midfielders that are the issue ............... we have wingers who will go after full backs .......... we actually have defenders who actually will carry it forward ......... but once it come into that central area that’s where it breaks down ............ rather than actually going forward with the ball they just turn back towards our defence ............ if Smallwood is his midfield general then it’s time he put a player in next to him that will look to go forward at every opportunity................. I honestly had high hopes after the Sutton win ........... sadly Saturday just dampened it again he just doesn’t learn and sadly I can see the Rochdale game being the same way we now go into two away games with added pressure to get something because in all honesty he sets us up that way for the future at home then I cannot see us getting much at home ................ I just hope the return of Walker will make us more forward thinking when it come to home games

 

Kev I know you don't rate Sutton but hear me out. He has gone backwards this year. It could be that he has been brainwashed into the MH safety first mentality and that has taken away what he does best, the fast breaks from midfield.
I hate to say it but after last night I am beginning to think we look like a team of players who aren't buying into the system they are being asked to play. Songo'o for one looks extremely uncomfortable with it.

 

If you're going for one in front of the back four then Smallwood is most definitely not your man.
Strength needed there so Songo'o would be the option.
We then need a new captain, one that is vocal and gets players grafting - again unlike Smallwood.

 

Raynor is a little tentative in his questions with Hughes and if he is a little pushy Sparky gets prickly and it's back to safe and sound
