Okay the actual seats in the Main Stand are 440 mm, with the supporting strut they extend to 480 mm in width. The depth of the row I sit on is 680 mm.

It's worth bearing in mind that the lower tier of the Main Stand and the Bradford End were constructed earlier than the rest of the stadium and built to a different Safety in Sports Ground Guide. That's why the knee room and the sight lines (ability to see the pitch over the top of the head of the person in front) are poorer in the Bradford End and the Main Stand Lower Tier,............so using those measurements will not be an accurate reflection of what happens in different stands. Just Saying!

If it is Westminster Hall which is likely as it is a Monday then it is pointless and meaningless.

I think the issue that will hold some clubs back is the stipulation to sign up for the early adopter scheme clubs have to have the set up for both home and away fans.

As for adoption at L1 and L2 level, isn't standing currently legal at those levels anyway?

    Quote from the article

These include having the necessary infrastructure in both home and away areas of their stadium, allowing fans to sit or stand in the standing areas with the seats not locked in the 'up' or 'down' position, ensuring the areas do not impact on the view for other fans, including those with disabilities, providing a code of conduct for standing fans and consulting with the relevant Safety Advisory Group.

So that means in the safe standing area you could have one person sat and the next standing but they can not impact on the view of other fans, so the steps would have to be steep if someone decided to stand in front of someone who decided to sit. or does it just mean if everyone was standing in the area it can not block those in the next area back?

It currently works for Celtic, their atmosphere / safe standing section is in the lower corner of their ground, which is similar to our lower NW Corner.

Not if it's an all seater stadium. It is currently only legal for those clubs who have terraced sections and/or stands. Those who are all seater would have to implement the new rail seats in the same way the EPL and Championship clubs are having to do.

not sure about L1 or L2 but shrewsbury do have safe standing so i think you are right there (Saw bantamlads comment, not allowed in all-seater grounds as of yet). With the impact of other fans i took it to mean if the person in front of you is stood up, you could sit and still see the pitch; in practice anyway.
Good planning by clubs would just put the safe standing in the loud parts of the ground as they stand all game anyway!

It'll never happen but I'd love the bottom of the Kop to go back to terracing.

I think the cost of doing such a large area to safe standing would be prohibitive. We are then back to how to fund the change. Should it come before the team or should it be funded by those that will use it.

Agreed. I'm not suggesting it should happen, it's just something I'd like to see.
