Just as i expected, a fantastic spectacle of rugby league and a controversial refereeing decision that changed the game. A game befitting a grand final, shame the two Bradford lads come away with the loss.

Been at work so missed the refs call but Twitter has gone in to meltdown so must've been a poor decision. Shame to happen on the big stage but that's the beauty of sport.

Two refs in the NRL, last tackle 5 metres from the Roosters line one waves another set of six so the Canberra half back keeps possession. Other ref gives handover to Roosters, they go the length of the field and score in the next set of six. Another controversial call when after 3 minutes Canberra charge down, Whitehead would have been clear if he picked the ball up but the chargedown hit the Roosters water carrier/coach on the head and bounced away. Shouldn't need to be on the pitch after 3 minutes FFS. Canberra the better side.

I see that England v France has been cancelled due to an expected typhoon and the score pronounced as a 0-0 which means England qualify as groyp winners.
More than likely to play Australia in the quarter final.

This is pathetic organisation by the IRFU. Unbelievable that they didn't schedule any contingency days, given that they knew it was typhoon season in Japan.
Not such a big deal in England's group but It's very tough on Italy missing out on playing the All Blacks. And if Japan v Scotland gets cancelled that will lock in Japan as group winners and lock out Scotland. Much as I want to see Japan win the group, that would be a travesty of justice.
    Unbelievably bad planning.

Wow what a game! A country and a language that very few people understand or respect. They even receive criticism for what they eat and their strange dress code!!! A country and its population that has been battered by the extreme weather conditions. A nation not known for its rugby ..... and now they have lost to Japan!

    ;);)

England have been fantastic. Hope they can see it out, means we don't have to witness the overhyped boring haka anymore.

That game was worthy of the final. A great performance from both sides but as Sean Fitzpatrick rightly said, the best team won. England were incredible at times and over 80mins outplayed the great All Blacks.

I'm still struggling to understand why England had two tries disallowed. The first I understand because the decoy runner was either offside or playing the player without the ball (or both in this case!) but the second was a surprise. It looked to me that although the ball was bobbling about in the rolling maul, Jamie George had his hand on the ball throughout. It couldn't therefore be either a knock-on or a forward pass which leaves me puzzled.

    Still a great game though.

I am not into Rugby at all, especially Union, but just heard about today's game. So, Congratulations to England on reaching the final. My very limited knowledge of Rugby had this down as a sure fire All Blacks victory.

England were top class today even having what looked like two very good tries ruled off.

As a Welsh Rugby fan I have to admit that England were totally awesome today, from the first minute to the last it was pretty much flawless rugby against the world's best team in a world Cup semi final.
Can they maintain that level again next week? If they can then they will win irrespective of who they play.
Wales need to raise their level tomorrow and, if they manage to win, it will be a dream final for both English and Welsh fans.
Thought the ref today was great, apart from maybe the second disallowed try, football could learn a lot from how referees in Rugby behave and are respected by the players.

Said this many times my grandson took up Rugby League, when he was 7 and I was a little taken aback when the players referred to the referee ad "sir", and never questioned his decision.

Yes he is but that is irrelevant, if he had a shocker then I would say he was terrible. My point about refs was a general point, nobody argues with the ref as it would mean losing a further 10 metres, football talked about introducing this rule, what happened to that?

They intended trialling it in a couple of competitions and then dropped it without any fanfare. That was a shame really since it might have introduced more discipline into football.

Farrell's questioning of Owens when he disallowed the first try seemed very polite and respectful. No histrionics; no waving of his arms and no other players joining in to surround Owens to put pressure on him. How often do we see that in football? And Owens was more than willing to explain his decision. Again, how often does that happen in football?
