If he did sign I hope he's braver on the ball than last season. Seemed reluctant to play forward or take the ball forward, but whether that was instruction or confidence I'm not sure. First option was to turn backwards which frustrated the hell out of many.

I believe that's where he wants to play in the future, so maybe City have promised him that to secure his signing, if indeed he is, although he did say he wanted league 1 football next season, which we cannot give him.

    Hopefully he signs

I think this wanting to play DM is all a bit tongue in cheek. Crichlow used a laughing emoji when he posted the video.

Stones does it. Slight different class but it can be done in da khazi league.

Difficult for a L2 CB to suddenly march up the pitch. Lose the ball and you're almost certainly a goal down.

However, he did do this marvellously in one match (can't remember which one) and we scored.

If he's coming back, then I think a back three is nailed on, with him playing the DM role. Or a back four with him as a DM. He could easily do both.

Yes. There's a danger of thinking what can be done in the prem, can be replicated in L2. Note, when Prem clubs play L2 teams, they very much adapt their play to match their opponents, before their superior class takes over. Or get knocked out.

However, from a defensive skills point of view Critchlow is way above L2 level. Coincidentally, former Hudds youngster Tom Clarke also transferred very effectively from CB to DM or the 'sweeper' of a back three. If you remember, he was superb when we had him at this level for a month or two, under McCall's first spell (I think).

So it would be a very logical next step for him and good for us.

If we play a back 3 that would probably give him more licence to do that in the same way Carlisle's centre halves over (under?) lapped at times.

I think your quote epitomises my point quite well, “However, he did do this marvellously in one match”.

I agree with you in that you can’t expect a L2 defender to march up the pitch, but I think he’s better than league 2 and the best defenders we’ve seen at VP were all comfortable playing out from the back. Richards, O’Brien, Burke, to name a few.
As for Crichlow playing DM, would you have him partner Smallwood? In my opinion that would pretty much leave us “as you were” without a ball playing, forward thinking or creative midfielder again. Something that stopped us going at teams last season.

Would Odusina suit that role better seeing he came from Hartlepool having excelled in a 3?

Critchlow for left back? Don't think it will happen but he could be good there.

Possibly. I've not seen anything yet from Odusina yet though to suggest he's a better option that Crichlow.

I'm sure he'll get his chance in pre season though if we do use that shape so it'll be up to him to grab it.

Whilst I would like to see Critchlow back with us for next season, it's not the end of the world if he doesn't return. In Platt and Stubbs we have a good league 2 defensive pairing.

Platt and Stubbs conceded just 8 goals in 11 games together.

Critchlow and Stubbs conceded 12 goals in 9 and abit games together.

Still waiting for this announcement. Are you genuinely someone who is "in the know" or did you just throw a random guess in there, hoping you'd get lucky for some likes? :joy:

Actually towards the end of the season Chrichlow was popping up in the box more and more scored one and was close a few times
