Ok so I think the critical number in the formation is the 2 on the end.
Playing Cook or Oliver up front as a lone striker is dog shit football that only serves to limit attacking threat and generally bore the paying public to death.
And yes I know Cook scored 31 goals but I’d rather we had 2 main strikers with 19 each and someone else from midfield chipping in.

 

Yes, he got injured and then couldn't get back in the team until Platt got sent off at Crawley, I think.
Whichever way you look at it, we were very close to two points a game average over the period.

If we could have carried that on we might have made the auto's.

 

A lot as my point that not many of any play 442 with a big man little man combo. Don’t get me wrong most teams like ourselves are a bit to crap to play the style the manager wants us to play, but it’s certainly evolved for better or worse.

At this level though their does still have to be more directness and physicality which isn’t as needed higher up, which we definitely lacked this season.

 

It was far removed from 442 as one could get.

This I agree with. Which is why I think 3-5-2 is now the in vogue formation. Allows you to play through the lines and thirds but still be more direct at times with a partnership up front.

I'd like us to work on it in pre season, but I don't think that'll happen.

 

I think the diamond is more likely with MH. You don't get overrun in midfield and get the two up front.

 

Those barstewards crossed my mind when I read he wouldn’t be returning. There is only one way to deal with these parasites…Not P& C solution but education seems to have gone over their heads.
Poor lad, good luck to him going forward, he deserves to succeed at whatever he does.
