It is believed to be the oldest Bradford curry house. It's certainly the first one I graced with my presence during Fresher's Week, October 1980.
Meat/lamb/mutton, especially with spinach, is my 'go to' curry. I have to force myself to choose other options, for variety, every now and then. The Desi meat & spinach karahi takeaway delivery from the Shimla Spice was my big lockdown treat.

I've been known to cook a big pot of the Karachi meat and spinach karahi for family and friends gatherings. It's a bit of a faff, but the result is worth it. Always goes down a storm.

It's lovely. But I can't believe the spinach quantity is correct. I triple or quadruple it.

Simple, fresh, cooked to perfection, dripping in a garlic butter light sauce.

Any recommendations for quality dining in Edinburgh anyone? I've already got a couple of places booked but need one more. Cheers

Birthday treat yesterday. Five course tasting menu, plus wine pairing, at the Waterside, Shipley:

Pea, mint & asparagus gazpacho (amuse bouche)

    1. Rabbit terrine
    Sauvignon Blanc

    1. Garden salad (non meat option for Ms Offcomedun)
    Sauvignon Blanc

    2. Vodka & orange turbot with compressed cucumber
Kung Fu Girl Reisling (Washington state)

    3. Venison
    Dandelion Shiraz Reisling (Oz)

3.Turbot with lobster bisque sauce (non meat option)
    Beaujolais Village

    4. Strawberry & passion fruit Sorbet

    5. Triple Chocolate vegan brownie
    Sauternes

It was all really good, but particular mention to the Reisling/cured, uncooked turbot pairing and the beautifully cooked venison loin.

£40 for the food. £25 for the wine pairing. Bloody good value in my book.

Reasonable portions too, unlike the Yorke Arms at Ramsgill, which charges £110 for several thimbles full of poncy nonsense.

    When and what price?
The big hitters in Leith are both very good. Wishart and Kitchin. However they are pricey and often booked up long in advance.
This place is quirky, we had a meal here pre-Covid https://www.timberyard.co/
Somewhere worth it for the fabulous interior, decent beer and more economical cooking is https://www.caferoyaledinburgh.com/ We have dined in the bar area.
If you like Italian food, then this Deli, is the best I have seen outside of Italy https://www.valvonacrolla.co.uk/
I haven’t been, but had a good reputation, my daughter is going mid August so I can get feedback from her, if your visit is later in the year. https://scranandscallie.com/

Let us know how you get on.

I really liked Tom Kitchin's 'The Scran and Scallie' just out of the centre, although the recent allegations against him/the company may understandably put folk off.

Edit: just seen @Bigrod@Bigrod also suggest this place. Hope your daughter enjoys, Rod.

Mid August we are staying on a ship in Leith! www.fingal.co.uk . I couldn't get a table at Kitchin or Timberyard and tbh didn't really fancy Wishart, although as Millario says I might rethink Kitchin anyway. Eating at the restaurant on the ship one night, then Ondine, then Angels with Bagpipes. I'll have a look at your links - thanks for that

Perfect timing. We are meeting some friends of the wife from "darn sarth" next week and they are staying in Bingley so I've booked the Waterside., Mainly on the basis of recommendations from on here, although those food critics who have made the journey up North seem to like it too

It's the third or fourth time we've been and have never been disappointed.
NB - it's souwf really, not sarth. At least, in my bit of Essex ;)

Funny, but we ate there a few years ago and I was disappointed. @ahar964@ahar964 I have been the the Angels and Bagpipes, which is round the corner. It was good when we went.
Not far from both Ondine and Angels & Bagpipes is the Bow Bar, an institution and well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. https://www.thebowbar.co.uk/.

If you are an Inspector Rebus fan, then you must visit his dour New Town Bar!

N.B. You are not far from Fishers ‘sea food’ restaurant. I was disappointed with it when we last went, which to be fair was about four years ago.

We had a pie in Bow Bar. It was a good pie.

This might've been the day that I ill-advisedly did the whisky tour (and generous whisky tasting) at about 10am which really put the brakes on the rest of the day...

Out for lunch today. Not had a bite to eat since! Two courses enough for me! This is what the missus had. She went fora home made tomato soup starter.

    upload_2021-7-21_20-7-49.jpeg

I had a mascarpone tart and then a haddock main course. Very nice. Certainly would recommend if you are in the Highlands.
