Restaurants and stuff

Not been to the Leeds spot yet but have done Harrogate a couple of times & always enjoyed. They all used to work at Salvo's in Leeds (i'm told) and wanted to do their own thing.

"Staff training" is tours of Italy. Gits.

 

Yes. Nice place. Haven't been for a couple of years.

 

I'm a keen Poker player so I'm a regular. Can't comment on the wine as it's not my cup of tea. My advice would be to stay off the pints. Tried multiple different drinks all flat no matter what I tried. Had some nice food though and been some good bands on when I've been playing.

 

I never realised they had bands on. I'll have to check it out

 

When you enter head left past the slot machines. Then there's a set of stairs if you remember and a bit of a seating area before you get to the bar above the poker tables. They clear all the seats and tables in that area and have the singers and band there. I know you mentioned you weren't a gambler but VGC has left the local Grosvenor's/Napoleons way behind. Just feels a better atmosphere and you could actually have a decent night without the need to gamble. Plenty of screens for sport and the food is actually decent.

 

Whilst I appreciate that a kebab isn't the epitome of fine dining and I don't know if it has already been asked before but......
Where in Bradford can I get a decent bloody kebab from? I'm looking for real lamb doner and not those greasy things that resemble an elephants foot and proper lamb shish. Surely it's not too much to ask for. I go to Brid a fair bit and there's a few Turkish kebab shops there..... Why not in Bradford?

 

Just noticed a Turkish grill on Duckworth Lane this evening. Looks quite nice inside and pretty new.

 

I don't live too far away from Duckworth Lane... I'll try find it and let you know what it's like if you're interested.

Not exactly Bradford, but had a few people recommend Fikos in Yeadon.

 

Not Turkish but the Dhesi Grill does some great kebabs and other grilled stuff, fish etc. Also if you ever get to Leeds, Headingleys "I am Doner" and another place opposite the Scarbro' Taps are good

 

There’s a Turkish kebab shop on Manningham Lane just on from City towards town, hygiene certificate isn’t the best but the kebabs are great!

 

Istanbul it's called. Brilliant place.

 

Wouldn't know, like with curries, I can't tell the difference between a good pint and a bad one, mind you, they don't last that long.............service was dire on Sat night, not enough staff and the ones I used couldn't speak good enough English & couldn't operate the electronic tills correctly, I felt so sorry for one stressed kid I gave him a fiver as I left.

I like it though.

Moved to Apperley Bridge two weeks back. Saw in the T&A that Bhaji's and Beers at Greengates got 2nd in the trip advisor recommendation list in an article yesterday. Literally 5 minute walk from myself. Has anyone been? Some takeaway advice would be helpful as well seems slim pickings at first glance. No takeaway menu's have fired through the door unlike my old house they were posted weekly.

 

I live near, it is excellent & the short menu is a mega bonus for eating there, you can have things adjusted to your taste.

Takeaways, always had good stuff from Idle Balti.

 

I can second the Idle Balti... Whenever I'm home its normally my first meal. Decent prices, quality curry.

 

And the lamb is shaved from decent cuts of lamb rather than processed.
Cafe Bianco opposite the Midland hotel do great shwarmas, grills and salads for an alternative kebab.

 

3rd'd. They have an app too which you can use and they don't charge delivery via that unlike just eat. Mama's pizza are pretty good.

Kiplings is really nice, you can get a takeaway from them too.
