Restaurants and stuff

Not trying to criticize mammas etc because I do like going there but Santoni does seem to really care about what they serve and change their menu, which isn't huge, regularly and they try to source locally. Not your typical "Italian" menu either thankfully. More like an Italian menu. Always good seafood/fish choices.

 

Think the bro-in-law was in there yesterday. Waxing lyrical about it.

 

Went last night again, loved it as per. A look at the menu tells you they're actually cooking rather than just loving the microwave.

 

Just caught up on the weekend supplements and had to double take. First he got to Bradford, and then name dropping Millario, sort of. After all his praise I'm surprised he didn't score it better, especially at the price. Hope the publicity does them good.

 

Annoys me somewhat when places like Shipley and Saltaire are mentioned in the same breath as Bradford, my Dad does it all the time, goes on about how parts of Ilkley belong to Bradford.

 

Ilkley is a Town in West Yorkshire, part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Ilkley civil parish includes the adjacent village of Ben Rhydding and is a Ward within the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council

 

not massively surprised, it never has anyone in when I've walked past.
I've never been to a Five Guys before, keep hearing its too expensive for what it is.

 

But at least we're getting a Pizza Express...

 

Its expensive out here for what it is. You're looking at $11/12 for a burger and fries. They stack the fries in fairness. But there is no market in BFD/Northern England in general that makes an expensive fast food joint a decent venture.

Five Guys has had that unit on the market for a long time, l wonder if they've actually managed to sell on the lease or its run out?

There is another "gourmet" burger joint opening in the old Peri Peri whatever unit, that won't last long either, crazy when the fast food joints in the Oastler centre are always busy, you can stuff your face there on a pile of cack for £2, why pay more?

I see the Pizza Express has 140 seats, there should be some reet atmosphere going on seeing as Zizzis never looks busy....

Good luck to the City Vaults expansion, that seems to be the go to pub for normal people. It should do well, every time l go it's pretty busy and seems to have hoovered up all the footfall wanting a bit more than Spoons/Ginger Goose. Nice street to sit outside when they get it done.

Has anybody been to the Bradford bakery?

 

I said before, l try to give my money to the independents not to chains. Its a lot harder to do in Bradford than other places....unless you want a curry.

 

I live in Leeds now so don't get out much in Bradford other than for a curry. I haven't been out in the city centre for years but It doesn't sound like I am missing too much. Its a shame, would love to see it booming.

Hi abbomf, somewhere else you might want to try on one of your wanders around Leeds. I haven't been but my son said its worth a try. It's what was Carpe Diem bar by Millenium Square. It's now called Assembly or Assembly Underground. It has a couple of independent bars and rotating pop up street food - not sure how they fit it all in but my son says it works!

 

Me and the wife went to the Light the other Friday and got the last table in Zizzi's, it was full. Food was ok, not the best I've had in there but decent enough.
