Just finished the series of Department Q on Netflix. Good stuff.
Just started North Shore, also Netflix, which is a murder mystery set in Australia which has very good reviews.

I would put forward Bridge to Terabithia as a great family film. But is has traumatic moments in it that can bring tears to a glass eye.
The acting was great, and the story was amazing.

Untamed, on Netflix, set in the Yosemite National Park, is a cracking watch.

Just watched The Escape Artist on Netflix. Two 90 minute episodes.
Crime/courtroom drama about a criminal defence barrister who successfully defends a sadistic murder. Stars David Tennant and a host of other well known British actors.
I really enjoyed it. Very well done IMHO.

Was great but a shame they have gone back on it being a stand alone mini-series as I feel it might end up being a squid game situation where the second season might be ok but the story ends up being forced and detracts from how good the first season was

Oh something I missed on my previous list is Sugar on AppleTV+. It's a show in the style of the 1950s noir films but in a modern setting with an amazing twist.

Oh and it's only a single season and a movie but Firefly is the greatest piece of Sci-fi ever

That's how quite a few pan out isn't it? Waiting on the reception before commissioning further series or pushing for more because of popularity, but then losing some of the essence in the rush to get it made.

Recently watched all of Yellowstone and I thought that maintained the quality throughout pretty much, although the ending felt a bit rushed.

While they obviously are always waiting on getting commissioned for a new season, creators of a show with a serial element usually have a multi season plan and create a bible to provide a framework for the full run and also how characters should evolve over the run. There's obviously some wiggle room for some changes, for example talk LOST where Micheal Emerson was only supposed to be a suppose to be in a few episodes but was the retrofit into the plan as they liked him while it also had to write others out early due to growth spurts, contract disputes and actors personal relationships breaking down.

Some creators though pitch a show that is always supposed to be self contained which is what was pitched to netflix for both this and squid game. Ideally you hope the outlet abides by that agreement UNLESS the creator themselves has a good idea and pitches it. A good example is Mare of Easttown, it was a big hit for HBO and they would like more but both the creator and Kate Winslet have said they would only do more if it's the right story and HBO haven't pressured them. If the creator comes up with a good story be it next year or in 2030 he will pitch it to Kate and if she is onboard they will go to hbo and pitch it otherwise it won't come back

It really is a brilliant show. I didn't start watching it right away, something about it just didn't strike me as it being great but it kept getting renewed and I would keep hearing about how good it was so I finally started when it was half way through season 4 and got caught up in no time. It's so well written with the mysteries being intriguing and clever, the main 3 despite seeming like it shouldn't work (Steve Martin and Martin Short are obviously always going to work well but Selene Gomez and those two seems an odd choice) and the supporting cast and guest stars are equally as amazing (And its amazing the quality of guest stars they get)

Another suggestion thats also on Disney+ is Alient:Earth. Part of the Alien Franchise, set 2 years before the first Movie. The Show Runner is Noah Hawley who also is behind the excellent Fargo TV show
