Ratings .... Ye or Nay

Someone who gets offended by a little cartoon picture of a cowboy hat and labels it akin to "bullying" should not really be suggesting to others that they need to grow up.

 

It’s not just that, T...Without ratings, we often seem to get these threads, where posters like Cougar and Bronco, feel like they have to post a reply to everyone they disagree with, resulting in multiple posts tediously labouring the same point over and over, it doesn’t encourage debate, it stifles it...And the point needs making again, if someone can’t handle an emoji, then they really shouldn’t be on social media.

 

Ok, I might be being a bit thick here, but what does the hats off emoji mean exactly? Why would it cause such anxiety?

Perhaps because some always took it too far. You know full well that you, Hobhead, Ali and Nick (amongst others) set their sights on one of those ‘poor souls’ and used it to ridicule them.

It created more arguments than people seeing the funny side.

Very true, but even after I turned mine off, I was still ribbed by your mate for doing so. And then he used to write things like “hats off to” and then tag me. So the fact I’d turned off ratings didn’t stop me being the butt of his joke.

 

Seriously man, why take it so seriously? Most took the thread for what it is, a harmless bit of fun.

 

Absolute poppycock. A debate is exactly that, one person giving an opinion and someone else countering it. Then the first person comes back with a further comment or reiterates their original point if it had been missed. I’d love to see you talking to someone about football over a pint.

If anything is going to stifle debate, it’s an offensive emoji. As I have said, I’m all for “agree”, “disagree”, “like” and “dislike”, but if you don’t feel the need to explain why you disagree why is an emoji any ifferent to just clicking the “disagree” option?

You say ‘most’ but I’d argue most didn’t like the emojis that were perceived negative, poop, w@nker, hats off etc

Perhaps we need a poll specifically for those types of emoji?

 

Hopefully those days have gone when it was do as I say not as I do, these guys look far more balanced, hope that gets me in their good books.

Only on the odd occasion would someone care enough to ask *insert poster* why they had been given a negative rating and even then, most of the time it was done in a respectful manner. As far as I can remember the majority got on with it.
