I want to like her but i'm struggling, says all the right things but the arrival of hundreds of illegals this year and then the bobbies bending the knee and showing their weakness just doesn't help her/our cause...

I can only judge them now and I believe this government is doing a shocking job at this minute.

Find it amazing that anyone can praise any member of our government at the moment - 40k deaths, millions unemployed, offices still not open but you carry on and accept failure.

I just don't believe you should act like you're supporting your football club and have this loyal support to Conservatives or Labour. If a government is doing poorly then say. I think that politics is outdated and you should just judge how a government is doing at a moment and in this moment our government is failing the country, badly!

In failure no one should be praised! This government is so weak! It's embarrassing! Just need to look at the school situation, the travel situation,Testing situation, Cummings situation - It's an extremely poor government.

 

I think we would all agree that it is to be hoped that none of the other political parties get the chance to prove that they could deal with a pandemic better than the Tories. I don't think many people (including quite a few Tory MPs) are happy with the way things are being handled.

Problem with Priti Patel for the left is she is the "wrong type of BAME" to quote some lefty loonies on Twitter. A bit like Jews.

Someone actually compared her to a coconut with any hit of irony about being racist.

 

I suppose Priti Patel and other Tory MPs of colour are seen by the left and also the Lib Dems as TAME BAMEs!!

 

A close friend of mine (black) was very upset to be called a coconut by other black family members of his. It means brown on the outside and white on the inside for anyone who doesn't know. A bit like the Uncle Tom phrase used in the USA. Not very helpful at all. There's so many variants to this debate. The fact is that our society IS unfair. Race is one factor but poverty the main one.

 

Seems a few pointed out the racism within this persons tweet. One of many who claim others are racist whilst not seeing the racism spewing from themselves.

 

Priti Patel Is a brilliant Home Secretary, She will turn out much better than many of her predecessors and is having to clean up the mess they left, When senior civil servants make a mess of things the Politician is the one to take the blame and resign or move on, Priti had the guts to sack the Civil servant who had caused failures in the dept previously and did a service in getting rid and sending the right message to others in the Home office which has been called not fit for purpose by many Home Secretaries over the years but who then failed to do anything about it,

 

The reason we have such poor government is because we have such weak opposition, good opposition creates strong government. Unfortunately this situation could go on for years.

It seems that tweet I posted has been blocked to all but people of the same mindset after the backlash they got from it.

 

Time will tell on that. I believe that Starmer is a much more competent politician than most of the Tory front bench and I think he'll turn things around.

Labour is very limited in what it can do at present, because of the pandemic. It's blindingly obvious that this government has made the most horrendous balls-up of handling it, which has cost many thousands of needlessly lost lives. But if Labour is too robust in its criticism it will be accused of politicising the crisis, so it has to be more muted than it would like to be.
So far Starmer is steering a middle line pretty well and the record drop in Johnson's popularity rating, and rise in Starmer's shows that the public agree. But it's early days.
