Pre-season update

I did look at the match report, Derby played 20 players during the game and had most of the opportunities. Sounded like a fitness run out, which I’m sure Fordy will support?

 

Well for a change Fordy the manager has come out and said promotion is the target, not we will take each game as it comes and see where it takes us or there are a lot of good teams out there with bigger budgets than us.
And although we have no "big time charlie's" in our squad they are all capable and have a no nonsense manager pushing them. So after the disappointments of recent seasons I am a bit more optimistic than usual.
Forget the results in the friendlies, I liked the fact that he has been playing first team squad players in these games, along with fitness probably to test their attitude.

 

I think there is only you referencing smashing league 2 this season. Those who have gone to games seem happy with what they have seen so far. A cohesive group who seem to be playing a nice attacking style and creating chances.

That seems a far cry from what we have witnessed over the last few seasons-apart from that purple patch mid season just gone. So instead of being Mr Grumpy chops all the time-smile and think this season could be the one. And how we get promoted is really not a consideration for me-just that we do get promoted is a good start in Mr Adams potential glittering Bradford City career. Who knows he could be the man to take us to the -gulp- Championship.

 

I think Bowyer is probably a good coach, maybe not an exciting football coach. The problem is when form drops off and points are getting dropped he maybe doesn't have the motivational skills that Degsy has and know when to give players a kick up the backside which according to players who have worked with him before Adams is more than capable of.

Strangely, some might say, I'd like us to lose at non league Chesterfield on Tuesday, after the 'great' win against a championship side. This may well give indicators of the motivational skills of DA, leading up to 3 away games that will be difficult, against 3 teams from 3 different leagues. When only, ultimately, 1 matters.

Salford got beaten heavily against Burnley 4-0 before beating Derby, whom by your account, hard most of the chances. I like that reaction from Salford.

 

Derby are in a world of trouble, transfer embargo, hardly any 1st team players, no defence and likely to be a points deduction.

 

Trouble maybe but that's not the worst team I've seen against league 2 opposition. Accordingly, Blackburn had issues finishing with a team, averaging the age of 19...


Throughout all my thoughts, I don't at this point, think their is one stand out team in the league.
My thoughts are not to big up Salford, far from it. But respect, I have for them. But at the same time, I'm not going to big up Bradford in the same manner....

 

Derby have only 7 contracted outfield senior players it was still a Good win for Salford but with their budget they have to be everyone’s favourite

 

And they will be, that is the way Adams operates. He expects hard graft from his players, whatever the playing budget.
Plus any time City have achieved anything, certainly in my 47 years watching them, it has been through hard work however talented the players have been.

He also has it in his locker to play a killer pass. I recall a couple of defemce splitting balls last season that put our strikers through one on one but unfortunately they fluffed em.. It will be interesting to see how Adams rates him. I can see him being his kind of player

 

Seen it before though, the biggest budget doesn’t always succeed!
