Thanks for that. We import pallet loads as opposed to full trailer but if we don't get it sorted today I will get our sales admin to have a word with them. Cheers

    Shushhhhhhh

Dont you know that importing goods worth £400 from the EU and facing surcharges of £157 is only because its the first two weeks of brexit!!!!!!!

After another two weeks importing goods from the EU will be FREE again this is JUST a teething problem.

No its his own fault, you can pay VAT on the order to the supplier or pay charges on receipt, Either way you must pay VAT on the goods, If he feels he has been charged twice HMRC will refund him,

    No

He was sent something from the companies EU warehouse even though he ordered from a UK entity therefore the mistake was not his and it is being refunded.

The point being that goods from the EU now cost, just as they do from the USA and everywhere else. I dont see that going away very soon.

Hi Clity, yes that is correct. I have a bit more information now. The company has told him that UPS should have charged the company and not the customer, although I actually spoke to the UPS driver (he is a regular delivery driver to us) and he said he had a van full of consignments from different European suppliers and he was having the same issue with most of them. I'll post again once I get the specific detail of what has happened.

    Update ........still waiting.
Apparently because we import pallets on groupage, rather than a full load, it doesn't matter how good our paperwork is. If one consignment on the trailer is non- compliant the whole trailer gets held. Earlier in the month Schenkers suspended all services to the UK for a week because they reckoned up to 70% of consignments had compliance issues.

Not seen this published anywhere but that's what's happening

I'm not sure that's right Karl. There is a tax free amount but i thought it was much less than that. Certainly didn't work for my mates jacket above, although it might be different for goods classed as "luxury goods"

I ship in automotive parts and so does my mate

We're only getting vat bills on goods over 1k

Maybe it's down to the commodity code used

I thought it was around £175 but seems that's not always the case
