Player stats and GDPR

    On the latest POF podcast they spoke briefly about Russell Slade heading a class action against various organisations which collate and use data and stats about footballers.

    It could be an interesting story to keep an eye on and it's probably going to ripple through a lot of areas from betting to computer games outside of the footballing world. If nothing else, it did make me think that clubs could start asking their players to submit GDPR requests to rival clubs ahead of matches to see what their scouts were saying about them ;).

    It's a ridiculous motion because its not like what the players do is being done in Private, they are undertaking these matches in Public. I can either by attending a match and even more so by watching a match on TV do the exact same thing that companies like Opta do so it's not like its privileged information. It would be different if games were behind closed doors and Opta were buying the data from the club/league
