I think that's an oversimplification. With maybe one or two exceptions, Paudie has dominated strikers in the air this season. He very rarely loses a heading duel. His tackling is generally fine too.
Other aspects of his game - positioning, passing, discipline - need work, undoubtedly. But he's 24, which is still young for a CB battling week in week out against the grizzled old physical strikers that he usually meets in L2.
What he needs is either a wise old head alongside him - we thought Canavan would be that player but his legs had totally gone - or a quick defender who can sweep behind him, leaving him free to attack the ball, as Davis did for McArdle.
I think there's a decent player in there - which is why he's being scouted by higher clubs - but he's had to carry too much responsibility in a poor defence for too long.

Sorry but that's simply untrue. Early season we conceded huge amounts of goals because we were dominated aerially and even though ROD seemed to take the brunt of the blame both Paudie and Canavan were both equally culpable.

We certainly did. But I'd love to know which of those were down to Paudie being beaten in the air by the man he was marking. Hardly any, I'd say.
And interesting that we've largely stopped conceding those types of goals now we have a keeper who isn't rooted to his line.

Plenty were down to Paudie being beaten in the air but I'm not interested in arguing the case or digging up video highlights to prove it.

If you think Paudie is dominant then fine, that's your opinion but when I think of dominant I'm thinking of McCardle and Davies and Paudie certainly isn't that.

People didn't want Rory, either, when he went to Scunthorpe.

Blew my mind at the time.

Look like the club have rebranded it a little bit and it'll be called the End of Season Dinner which will take place on Sunday 8th May. 1903 club members have bee sent an email this evening.

An end of season dinner, you say?

    Great!

Maybe it will reflect the season, only in dinner form?

Name all these grizzled old strikers in L1? Three will do who have played against us.

The opposite applies they are all mostly young extremely mobile and have left our defence , no matter who was in it chasing shadows, especially under Adams.

Proctor, for one. But I'm useless at knowing or remembering the names of opposition players.
All I know is that when I watch City games I see Paudie winning nearly every aerial duel he's involved in.
I agree that he's not the most mobile and therefore vulnerable against smaller, nippy strikers - just like 95% of the CBs in L2. If only we had one or two of those mobile goalscorers in our squad.

There aren’t many centre forwards left in that mould any more. Over 95% play the lone man up front, unless they are mobile and nippy, they are toast. Just look at our CF!

Defenders have to be likewise or they are toast too.

Look at our current two and include Canavan/Kellerher , which entirely sums up our defence this season.

It speaks volumes…… round holes and square pegs!

We need to be honest and stuff sentimentality, just because someone wears their heart on their sleeve does not make them an asset that will get us out of this division.

None of this alters my view that Paudie dominates most L2 strikers in the air. Every game I see him win virtually every header he goes for.

That’s fine, however you do realise these speedy, nimble highly mobile lone strikers aren’t 6ft plus anymore and usually want it on the floor? We established the haggled grizzly striker hardly exists any more , but Paudie can win headers from the smaller strikers who want it at their feet. And now we see why we concede more than we score?

If I'm not mistaken, Brandon Thomas Asante (Salford), Josh Gordon (Barrow) & somewhat bizarrely Mark Cullen (Hartlepool) are the only sub-6 foot lone strikers to have scored against us this season.

I'm not sure your claim that we're badly struggling against this new breed of pacy lone strikers is actually true?

Look at the goals against….Actual stats don’t lie do Jon.

On a similar theme how many big old grizzly centre forwards have scored against us this term.

It’s the support players to the pacy forward who creates the space in the first instance, that also score goals.

The main observation is goals against, compared to the top 6 . That’s where the issue lies, coupled with goals for . Irrespective of how many are conceded if you don’t score, which we don’t generally, we have a toxic mix and a lousy league position.

    That’s where we are sadly.

Turns out, Paudie won POTS for the second year running.

They also announced Walker's two year deal.

Bobby Pointon won the Academy POTS.
