Planning for League One

Higher season ticket sales, along with an increased budget , increased away support , and a recognition from Rupp that he has to invest then ……….It should be fun!

 

For the starting 11 I think we need 3 first team CB’s, 2 CM’s and a striker- all of very high quality.
Was looking at some of the out of contract players yesterday and here are some of the players we should be in for if we are serious about promotion:

Sweeney, POC, Fraser Horsfall, Eoghan O'Connell, Kal Naismith, grathbriathe, Mceachran, Callum Camps.

A couple on that list might be a bit ambitious but i genuinely think it’s calibre of player that will be required to get out of what looks like a very difficult league 1 next year.

The biggest problen we’ve got are some of the players already under contract. Leigh, Oliver, Smith, and Odour are nowhere near good enough and you suspect will be nowhere near the squad. And that’s before factoring in others like Byrne, Tyreik Wright, Lapslie etc who also aren’t up to the required standard. It’ll be interesting to see how we shape up over the summer and whether we acquire the right sort of players, but with the squad as it is and there unlikely to be additional investment from Rupp I think we’d be doing well to finish mid-table.

 

Midtable would be an excellent first season back. I’m fully preparing for a consolidation year. We need a couple of strikers in the door and some solid league 1 experience all over

Good shout that. Over 100 appearances at the age of 21, an ever-present in a Crewe defence which has performed well this season, has league 1 experience and won’t break the bank. Ticks all the boxes.

Not having the extended ST deadline if fans wanted at the early bird price then they should have bought one beforehand not after promotion yesterday.

League 1 is a different animal to what it was 7 years ago. There are some big teams in there with millions to splash. Luton for example will still have 30million parachute payment from the PL.
To say we can make the playoffs next season is very ambitious and would need a huge investment to get anywhere close.

 

We have to be ruthless, no room for sentiment. Players who are not good enough need to be released/encouraged to find a new club and we need to bring real quality through the door.

The player pool we have access to has gone up a few levels now in terms of permanent signings and loanees. Not only because of promotion, but because we'll be viewed as an upwards mobile club with huge attendances and terrific atmospheres. I look back at the documentary Palace did on Tayo and his academy mates he had at a game were all in awe of the crowd and atmosphere. Word gets around and we need to maximise it.

 

At least 12-13. of them will fill the away allocation . That should help the coffers no end?.

 

Agreed and to be honest there aren’t many of the current squad who are good enough to step up and some of those that are, are too old.
Of the players that we actually own, I’d say only Bobby Pointon is good enough.

 

Didn't they say when they held behind close doors supporters meeting they had planned to go with this formation going forward no matter what division we were in and that plans were already underway to recruit at least L1 calibre players

 

Weekend away with the missus to any of those places will be a hard sell, bar Lincoln perhaps. Perfect for short distance 'derbies' mind.
