See this is the problem. Even though a player is contracted we feel we have to keep them. Again I will use Kav. He isn’t good enough for league 1, so for me I will be looking to see or loan him out.

Too many on that list that are contracted until end of next season that are not good enough and we need to get rid of.

 

I get what you are saying but if a player is contracted , unless a club willing to pay them more is wanting their services then we are stuck. Paying them off is not as simple as we think , as it could double the wage bill overnight with zero return .

Oliver being the classic example . Even if we get someone to take over their wages or part therof , however we are still stuck.

 

Kav is a funny one. Has potential I reckon. If he starts the season well we could get offers in the winter window.

Main thing he needs to work on his control. Also, playing up front on his own is not his thing.

He definitely is but given all the league 1 experience he's picked up over his last 2 loan spells, I fully expect to see him offered a contract extension.

He was our best centre half when he left and he'd still be our best centre half when he comes back (to be released).

 

I don't think that's controversial at all Dennis. We should absolutely be looking for better in every position and if we can bring in someone who keeps Cooky sat on the bench then what a great option we have later in games if it's not quite working.

It would also mean that we'd have a genuine rotation option and cover for an injury that we don't have at present.

 

Exactly, this will be one of the hard decisions that needs to be made. We don’t know what we are going to get when he returns to fitness/ capability . I’m sure he will be fine BUT there will be uproar if he isn’t and we have no recognised c/f capable of L1 football week in week out!
Look at the debate during and post January window, because we failed to get in a replacement .

Sadly as I and others have said…There is no room for sentimentality.

 

There's no way that Cook is playing 90 minutes for 46 games next season after the injury he has had. We absolutely have to get at least one striker in that is of L1 quality, ideally two, with Cook and Kav to give us options.

 

Don't forget Leigh plays up front too
