Mother in law got done there a couple of years ago, was shopping in the shops in Forster Sq and was just over the 3 hour limit. The law may have changed but she just ignored all correspondence and they didn't pursue it - took over 18 months of correspondence from them before they stopped sending them. Double check the law though.

Little sympathy from me I'm afraid. Busiest retail time of year and you've effectively stolen the space of a potential paying customer and overstayed your welcome to boot.

    Bloody cheeky in my opinion.

The parking signs clearly state that the car park if for the use of customers and users of the City Centre. Don't state it's customers only car park.

The old 1.5 hours one did when they changed them in their get rich scheme about this time last year. However they are now showing 3 hours and I think they are run by a different parking firm.

think they realised that stating customers only went against their planning permission

Pay up, you deserve a fine but I agree, not such a disproportionate one, but £50 is just not worth the hassle of dealing with that company, and, despite the advice to ignore, you could well end up with a CCJ if you do.

I've just been through this with Asda at Shipley, I parked up about 9:30 got some stuff and cash for my night out in Saltaire. I decided to walk to Saltaire, I knew about the parking time limit but thought I'd be back in time, but I got pissed so left it. Talking to the fine company is a waste of time, they'll only drag dialogue on so that you are over the cheaper fine time limit. I got mine cancelled because I had a receipt to show that I'd shopped at a time when the car park was 90% empty but mainly because I kicked off at the service desk and the manager just wanted rid of me.:)

    Hi Abbomf,

Take your point about paying up, and I will probably have to I suppose, I haven't ignored the letter, not a good idea with the possible threat of a CCJ.

I have appealed against it, might clog up their system for a few days, it will at least give me minor satisfaction before the inevitable refusal of my appeal.

We will see how we get on.

The interpretation of the law has changed in the parking companies favour so am afraid you will have to pay up or have a CCJ on your record which will have serious consequences, Good luck

I am resigned to the fact that I will have to pay, just delaying the inevitable by sticking an appeal in.

Having done a bit of research since I got the notice, I agree with you, but, being a bloody minded decided to appeal and take my chances, the appeal takes a bit of time, so no harm in trying.

Is there case law on this @trevor@trevor ?
My experience has been that if I ignore these parking notices (ie Invoices, not bona fide council parking tickets) for long enough they eventually go away without taking me to court. What has changed in the law to render that strategy unadvisable?

Why do you people think it's OK to abuse car parking facilities?

The option of them taking you to court has always been there, it is just now they are doing it more often as well as issuing more tickets. Since 2012 they have been able to pursue the registered keeper via the DVLA database and are using it more and more
