I was never into Black Sabbath, but did like Ozzy as a person.

So glad he managed the farewell gig last month

    Saw him twice in 1970.

Once at St Georges Hall once at Bradford Uni.

Saw him at Leeds Arena a few years ago.

RIP to the Angel of Darkness.

Why does one cry at 72 years old?

Artists like Ozzy are dying breed if you pardon my choice of words. Different era where true rock and roll stars were born, the 70s and 80s produced some insane music talent.

Away from here, I'm immersed in a lot of heavy metal forums. There's many contributors admitting to shedding a few tears. He touched many people's lives.

I was a big metal fan from my school days in the 80s through the 90s. Started with the likes of Sabbath and Dio, to the likes of Maiden and Metallica. Bands and artists that have been performing for 50 years or more, still selling out tours. New music seems very flat in comparison.

Exactly the same for me. Unfortunately Ozzy had left Sabbath by the time I got to see them in Bradford.

I did see him play solo once and twice with Sabbath in recent years.

These days I much prefer seeing small concerts with bands that know they are never going to be big. They just do it for enjoyment. Fifty people watching, hardly a phone in sight, just appreciating the music.

I'm not a huge fan of metal and yet something drew me towards Ozzy and Sabbath. Maybe it was Ozzy's antics or his attitude to life in general. But I'm sure he will be missed by all who knew him. I'm pleased for the band that they managed a final concert before he passed away.

I always hated Black Sabbath. All that turgid doom stuff never appealed to me at all. In the early 70s they were generally regarded by most serious rock fans and journos as deeply uncool and a bit of a joke really. I much preferred the likes of Cream, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin - hard rock but not metal.
But it’s undeniable that they’ve been massively influential - albeit mostly on bands and genres that have no interest for me. No doubt that Ozzy was an entertaining character though.

Sabbath are far far farrr cooler than Cream, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin could ever hope to be haha. And as for the serious rock fans and journos from the early 70s..... :joy:

    RIP Ozzy!
