I was at the literary talk at science museum today, Mason was there with Jason McKeown, John Dewhirst and Gary Jones. Someone asked where the money has come from for all this transfer activity. Mason replied it is totally down to Stefan Rupp, he has plugged the black hole of debt and invested in the transfer activity this summer. He had the option to walk away and cut his losses but John Dewhirst said that Rupp feels he has a duty to sort out the financial issues and is doing so.

are people angry that the money has gone back to Stefan Rupp, if so, why? he's cleaned up the mess Rahic made, shouldered the financial mess himself, and given us a 2.5 million pound budget for this year. if you genuinely thought this money was going to just get lumped onto our budget for this season you're living in cloud cuckoo land. quite right that it should go back to Rupp.

he's still commited to the club, isn't selling up, and will continue to run and finance us.

I know this is rich for me to say, but stop picking faults that aren't there. we have most of our signings in the door, we'll add a couple more I imagine as GB has said a couple of times he still wants a couple more players, the squad looks decent for the level, it's been a positive pre season. lets go.champions by christmas.

Julian Rhodes saying we might be able to get one or two more signings in with the cash, and to be fair that's just about all we'll need until January, and hopefully we'll see some movement with some of the current contracted dross that Edin signed. The lions share goes to Stefan and plugging the gap. To me that sounds just about bob on. Happy days

    Why?

It will be the biggest fee we have ever received for a player and he barely kicked a ball for us.

It is going to prove fantastic business for the club and Rupp can only thank the previous regime for sticking the clause in.

It could be the difference between promotion or a middle of the road season or even to ensure the club break even after last year’s shambles.

Whatever happens it is worthy of lots of talk. It’s massive for our club

The Swansea scout who took a punt on a kid who never scored really needs a pat on the back .

Sorry, but that's just nonsense. You and your mates may not have rated him, but plenty did. He was a Scottish youth international and had been top scorer in a youth tournament when guesting for Man U. He was on the scouting radar of several clubs.
On the old Claret & Banter board there were many comments to the effect that he had obvious promise but was being thrown to the lions by PP when he clearly wasn't physically ready for the physicality of L1.
It was blindingly obvious to me, and others around me at VP, that his movement and control were outstanding. If you couldn't see that then it says far more about you than about him or the Swansea scouts that correctly identified him as a future star.

Glenn Ackroyd cleared the sell on weeks ago and JR/ML are sharper than you clearly believe.

Whatever the truth is, Oli shouldn't be discussing the terms of his contract on social media.

Tbh, in all of this drama around Oli and what and if City earn xyz, I wish The lad nothing but success. The day he moved to South Wales, I was surprised, no dumbfounded. Today Oli, has proved in the early part of his career that he has the ability, nounce and drive, to achieve.

I think we're all rooting for the lad but wouldn't mind City earning something from it.

    Sorry, but that is bollocks.
I think most of us were surprised at the fee we got. But it's simply not true that no one rated him.
He scored for fun at every previous level he played at, so to say he 'couldn't hit a barn door' is laughable. He had very few clear cut chances in the first team games he played for us, because he spent most of his time with his back to goal being bullied by hulking centre backs that were three stone heavier than him.
If you couldn't see his potential then that's your problem. Plenty of us could, and said so at the time. So stop trying to tell other people what they did and didn't think.

To be honest I think we all just need to chill out a bit and wait and see what happens, a lot of comments about where the money will go but none of us really knows. All I will say is S Rupp has been as good as his word since the Edin debacle and I for one am happy to trust he has the interests of the club much more to heart now. I dont know for sure but I am pretty certain if GB has in mind someone he would like from the McBurnie money (and remember this is still far from a done deal) then SR is far more likely now to look to support him than when he was previously somewhat in the dark to what was going on. And before anyone pounces, I know he should not have been in the dark to such a degree but I am only interested in us moving forward .

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it. However someone on Twitter made a very good point. Whilst Rupp may decide to take the transfer fee out. What the transfer does do is raise our income for the year significantly, which in turn allows our wage budget to increase as the 2 are directly linked int he EFL's FFP rules. At no point has the club said there's no more money available but what it has been intimated at is that we're at the 55% threshold.

It's no different to Mark Lawn getting his £1 million plus significant interest back in 2013 after our League cup final run. We were then desperate to sell Wells the following January to make ends meet. Surely people don't expect Rupp to throw in the 2 million for new players. What it will do is make the club a lot more solvent than It was over the next 12/18 months.

Doesn't mean they'll be any better, the grass isn't always greener mate. Just as likely to end up with a worse owner as we are a good owner. Plus I don't think Rupps all that bad. Naive about the industry and with Rahic, 100%. But he doesn't seem like a shithouse in the Ken Anderson or Duchatelelelelet mould, which is about as good we can realistically hope for from an owner who isn't just a rich fan. He;s backed Bowyer with a more than adequate budget for this level, if you can't get promoted from L2 off 2.5 million you definitely don't deserve to go up

What really stood out to me was how quickly he bombed Rahic out once he learnt the true picture. Correct me if I'm wrong but it was a matter of days (not heart) or a week or two from the fans going to see him and Rahic getting booted out. That shows to me he was guilty of trusting rahic to run his investment too much as opposed to anything more nefarious.

People should follow their local teams rather than following the likes of Man United. Then these clubs would get higher attendances.

Apart from maybe not knowing his contract, it isn’t even his contract we are discussing. It is a private agreement between two clubs, neither of which is owned by Oli.
