Here's a thought. the council are pulling down John street and kirkgate market to build this urban village.
Why not buy the site next to Broadway behind the Midland hotel and the travel lodge opposite ,right next to Foster square railway station and retail park and apply for levelling up funds and build a central leisure centre with a nice swimming pool right in the heart of the city and a short walk down from the new village for all the new city centre resident's.

An old garage and forecourt, a tiny office, a tap. Alternatively it gets bulldozed and it’s two
“ Executive homes”, subject to planning permission.

That’s exactly what one of my old retail tenancies was.

The point is, surely, that travelling into the city centre from South Bradford or Halifax to VP by public transport requires one bus or train. To get to Odsal from north of the City, where a lot of the support comes from, requires one bus or train to the centre and a change to get up to Odsal. It would greatly increase the journey time and inconvenience for thousands of regular fans

Yes it would inconvenience the ones you mention…..but benefit those in the areas I mentioned on the flip side.

The Odsal redevelopment won’t happen though, so its a moot argument!

Speedway not mentioned. A covered track would attract big meetings.

That’s a great idea , plaster a brand new stadium with shale. Anyone actually been to speedway will know how much and how far shale dust travels .Upkeep costs of cleaning all the seats would be more than income from the event!

This idea gets dafter by the minute.

Are you serious? Can you imagine Spurs permitting speedway in their shiny new address? Add a speedway track or indeed a running track just takes supporters away from the game. It won’t happen.. These ideas for “using” this venue is straw clutching at best. Don’t forget about synchronised swimming, rock climbing, ski jumping, demolition derbies and the jewel in the crown a wildlife safari park on Wednesday’s. Sorry for being flippant but it’s all been said before for nigh on 50 years. Fill it in.

Modern speedway bikes have a shale/dirt deflector on the rear wheel (health & safety), very little shale/dirt is thrown out in todays speedway compared with the Kenny Carter, Peter Craven, Ove Fundin, Barry Briggs days, but they were great for kids on the bends ducking so they did not get showered then if they were lucky the guys who racked the shale bacl inside of the track would throw you a pair of those plastic goggles one of the riders had pulled off usually the one in first place.

I do agree the days of a good stadium at Odsal have gone never mind a "Super Stadium" but with regards speedway the principality Stadium Cardiff is the British Speedway venue and IMO is the best FIM Speedway GP on the speedway circuit.

That was a part of attending speedway meetings the smell of methanol that fuelled the bikes, now a days kids prefer a sweeter smell I'm told ;).

I should have said Dust ( in the atmosphere) Dave. The seats on row ZZ would be covered in it as it’s proposed to have a sealed roof. Nowhere for it to go except in the atmosphere of the stadium.

Vague recollection of hearing that the Odsal site can't be used for housing because of its use before it was a stadium. Could be wrong.

    It
It was actually the smell of Castrol R that gave speedway it's distinctive smell. The modern synthetic oils are nowhere near as evocative.

The bowl isn't big enough as it is for rugby and stock cars, the pitch was shortened to accommodate the latter. If you think speedway is messy try coming out of a stocks meeting clean.
