Are they defining them as assets or investments?

I doubt it is 'income' which is being investigated since NFTs aren't really designed as income generators. But capital gains is easily triggered by an increase in the NFT's value and that's what is taxed when the NFTs are sold on. I suspect that is why HMRC are on the case. It's exactly the same situation with cryptos and many people who have 'invested' in cryptos in the past and sold them are simply unaware until the tax demand lands.

Thanks for the insight Jon, I am suitably (i.e.) only slightly chastened. I am more than happy to be enlightened. Any comments on the FSB report this morning at https://www.fsb.org/2022/02/assessment-of-risks-to-financial-stability-from-crypto-assets/. Theirs is a more sober assessment than mine which was intended as polemic, but a brief read does indicate cause for concern. But hey, what do I know?

They want to regulate the market, so expect tons of scare stories to come out.

There's some horrendous practice in the crypto/Nft world, no kidding, and entering it isn't something that should be done as simply as opening a bank account; but there will be tons of propaganda about it in the next few years minimum.

Imagine if they had taken control we would be more concerned about the performance of the crypto currency than the performance on the field

As opposed to being more concerned about hot water in the toilets or whether we get a plastic card instead of a barcode with our season ticket?

Fans having a difference of opinions kept the forum fresh it realy wouldn't be the same if we all agreed, I'm sure many wil be keeping a close eye on the Crawley situation and how they perform going forward with their new owners.

Before anyone jumps the gun on yet more media sensationalism, let's analyse a few quotes from the article, which suggests it was nothing more than dressing room banter (rightly or wrongly) from John's perspective, though you can understand if some players didn't feel comfortable around this type of rhetoric.

"Some of them [the players] would play along"

"A member of staff at Crawley, speaking to Sportsmail: ‘John would see it as banter'"

"The manager remains popular with fans, who chanted ‘We want our Yems back’ during Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Leyton Orient"

It’ll certainly be interesting to watch how the Crawley experiment goes, regardless it doesn’t solve our problems however. I judge success on league positions and 5th in league 1 to 14th in league 2 is a terrible look for Rupp. So far other than shit American humour they haven’t actually done anything wrong. I imagine with a takeover so late in the season(really the season tickets should have been put up while the previous owner was still in charge, as with ours at the end of 15/16) and the shocking allegations against their former manager has effected the timings of everything. To me it looks like the shit show is what they’ve inherited rather than created, but their tweets look like they’re aimed more at 15 year old Americans rather than British football fans, they’ll have to learn their audience.

We’ll see how both clubs do, but I doubt Crawley have been as lucky as to have a Mark Hughes drop into their spam folder. Sometimes though I suppose it’s better to be lucky than good as my grandad said.

I have to admit I was quite excited and positive when they were interested in us. Now I think we might have dodged a bullet after reading this article. Will be interesting who they get on. Telford signing is a good start, let’s see if they continue.
