To be in with a chance of gaining promotion, then I reckon we need around 22 points from the next 10 9 8 games, which is just before the transfer window start and an opportunity to add more players to the squad.

The league fixtures include: Salford (A); Leyton (A); Cheltenham (H); Carlisle (H); Oldham (A); Crawley (A); Cambridge (H); Grimsby (A); Tranmere (A); Port Vale (H).

Looking at those fixtures and taking into account our and the oppositions current form, then I think we will get about 12-14 which is far short of pushing for a ‘play off’ slot, never mind automatic promotion.

Port Vale, Carlisle, Cheltenham and Cambridge are in the top eight. Salford, Tranmere and Grimsby are difficult (but not impossible) away fixtures. In the last decade we have lost to Oldham eight times, beating them on five occasions.

If we only manage 12 points, then we will probably remain somewhere between 16-18th and will hardly be an attractive proposition to attract players who are ambitious and are seeking success.

I genuinely hope that my predicted number of points, is well short of what we achieve, and that we manage over 18. However even if we win everything at home and draw away (which would be automatic promotion form), we will still be far behind the position of the clubs, who went on to get promotion last season.

Next four look very tough in my opinion. We have to sort our defence out to have any chance of getting some points from those. Salford first up and they have a new manager who lost his first game but haS had over A week with his players on the training ground by Saturday. I reckon we lose that and it’s a bad start to our “10 game” spell

    Good OP.

I looked at the fixtures after Saturday's game then looked at the league table and thought If we are not in the top half after Salford (A); Leyton (A); Cheltenham (H) the McCall has to go because we move in to December and it's highly unlikely that we will finish in the play offs under him this season and give new manger time to get players in with the Jan window coming up.

Salford away will be tough due to the new manger but it's winnable. Leyton away we should win and anything less is unacceptable. Cheltenham is hard.

The next 3 games are key. Suppose 4 is you want to include the FA Cup match.

I looked at those 3 fixtures and thought Salford-Draw/Leyton-Defeat/Cheltenham-Draw.

Now I hope I am unduly pessimistic, but the away games are not easy (none are for a club in our position) and Cheltenham are a basic, yet difficult team to beat.

A lot may ride on the FA cup tie. Lose that and our season could implode.

If we are to get owt from the games coming up it’s
absolutely vital we stop giving the gifts away that we are.Got in front Saturday from a good move and 20 minutes later we are behind without Exeter having to do too much.Any future opposition scouts watching us know how quickly our heads drop when we concede.Stuart knows how piss poor the defending was.Had a full week to sort it.Lets hope they have listened and realise that even in lge 2 you get punished when you switch off.

I’ve gone back to the last full season, in 2018/2019. After 21 games, then the club with the lowest number of points, who made the ‘play off’s’ had 33 points.

    The final table
    upload_2020-11-18_16-0-27.png

I hope I am totally wrong, but given that we are on 13 points after 11 games, then we need 20 points from the next 10 9 games to be in with a shout. As much as I would like to think we can go on a tremendous run, then I struggle to see how we can ‘catch up’.

    Bigrod, it won't happen.

Misfiring forward line. A defensive unit with mistakes in it. A team lacking character and leaders.

1 league away win in 13 months, McCall 5 league wins from 17, of which only 1 victory has not been against outside the bottom 6. That being Plymouth whom finished with 9 men.

A club in decline mastered by Rupp, with a diminishing fanbase. Pointless having hope.

Ah yes, the age old favourite of the malcontent - dwindling fan base.

Isn't this the most bizarre time any of us can remember, the least predictable of all time?

What's to say people arent so desperate for football we pack the stadium out?

Honestly, I've always hated the false 'fans will leave if Parky stats' type criticisms of the style of football, so even if you're right (and it seems feasible given the fears surrounding mass gatherings and the health and well-being of certain vulnerable groups), I'm not a fan of predicting doom without any genuine data.

Jon, lovely stuff. Fan base and all that. Just the smallest mention from me...

Anyhow, topic on about next 10 games and potential play off place. As you have already stated, that you believe we will not go up or down, not much for you to comment on here.

For me, it's brought home how much I love 'LIVE' football irrespective of how sh1t it may be. It's not just football it's the whole experience, my boys, my dad, my friends, a few beers before/after, conversation about the game, other fans, the whole social element of it!!

My youngest is 13 and used to get disillusioned with it but is f****g bored at home with his mum, cant see any live footy from City!!

Well with 22 points now required from a mere nine games (7 wins, a draw and a solitary defeat), then the target gets easier all the time!

I think the players and managers need to get onto these guys for advice!

It's doable, but only if and only if McCall works on our terrible defence.

Without a solid defence we're destined to fail this season. We beat Southend and Tonbridge, but both on paper were always easy games, but in how well we did is what was fantastic, I didn't expect us to beat them both as we did, I'm sure if we solidify our defence and make it strong we can still climb the table this season and start doing much better than we have been doing.

GET THE DEFENCE SORTED STUART AND QUICKLY!!

Quick turnaround. Leyton orient away now on Tuesday night. Can’t see the players who missed Salford being fit for this one. No real time on the training ground for McCall.
Orient have beaten Bolton 4-0 and Harrogate 3-0 in recent home games. Can only see a defeat

They wont be fit McCall said as much in his post match interview, and also said there may be a couple from yesterdays game struggling, what a great time to be going to Brisbane Road.

With such a paper thin squad, the next 14 days see us travel to Orient and then 3 home games against Oldham in the Cup and against Cheltenham and Carlisle, both in play off positions. In honesty Dave, not a great time to be taking anyone on.

It's not mate but fixtures have to be fulfilled, just the one spec of positivity to take from the Salford game and that was Zeli's 20 min cameo the kid certainly has ability we need others back to take advantage of his wing play.

If you did not see the second half then you wouldn't have seen that Zeli was comfortable on the ball he did some good work, I've not said hes the answer my comment was "the kid certainly has ability we need others back to take advantage of his wing play", we will be a better side the the 5/6 who were out injured yesterday back in the starting 11 IMO.
