That would require a council interested enough in City to allow it and a half competent police force to enforce it.

Well they have looked at ‘pedestrianising’ some streets. The section between the bottom of Hollywell ash Lane and Thoncliffe Road could/should be closed between 1.00pm and 5.30pm/6.30pm and 10.30pm. It isn’t rocket science.

Midland Road could have boxes located at the bottom of the roads, to make it easier to close off on match days.

That’s exactly what I had in mind....easy to police , in fact a couple of security staff/stewards would be cheaper.

The club looked into this a few years ago when Baldwin and Dowse were still here. It would have required a Road Closure Notice on Midland Road to be applied for for every home game. I can't recall the precise numbers involved but it required a lengthy legal, traffic monitoring and consultative process costing several thousand £'s on each occasion. As much as it sounds like a great idea, it isn't just as simple as putting up a few barriers and employing a few stewards to police it.

I see little reason why Midland Road needs to be a through road. It could easily be permanently closed between Cornwall Road and Thorncliffe Road (with some limited access for disabled parking). It would solve a lot of problems.

    Where there's a will there's a way.

I understand that, but that was sometime ago. The Council are apparently adopting flexible closure of roads at peak times. https://www.bradford.gov.uk/browse-all-news/press-releases/bradford-council-to-trial-schools-streets-at-11-primary-schools/. “The School Streets scheme will limit traffic on a number of roads close to schools at drop off and pick up times. This will mean the majority of vehicles will not be allowed to drive into these streets around schools at start and finish times. Separate access arrangements will be made for local residents and businesses while some vehicles, such as the emergency services, and those for people with mobility issues will be exempt”.
Delete school and insert ‘Sports Stadium scheme’ and you have a template to change the use of the roads around VP.

Midland Road is already closed to through traffic on match days with barriers and stewards to stop traffic unless accessing the disabled spaces behind the ground

Do you mean on match days or on a permanent basis? If permanent then I can not see the council going for it, especially with the tip located on there. They like to have access from both ends so wagons can get easy access

Now that is the cure for ignorance! If that is the actual case, then that seems to partially answer the issue. In all fairness I sit in the Main Stand and access the ground via Manningham Lane, so it is years since I have been to or from a game along the Midland Road.

It sounds like a great idea for preventing irresponsible parents from parking in dangerous positions near to schools. But it suggests a restriction on parking rather than a road closure per se since residents, business owners and others continue to have access. Simply swapping 'schools for 'stadium's suggests that it will therefore only impact on those few hundred fans whose cars are parked on Midland Rd on matchdays. It doesn't sound much like closing MR and using the road area as a fan zone with food outlets, beer stalls, tables etc if access for residents is still to be allowed.

    I meant permanently permenant. ;)

And, despite the fact a through road is not needed, I agree that the Council would probably not go for it.

What is the definition of the fan zone and its purpose?

Other fan zones, generally involves some form of entertainment be that music, some stuff for kids, occasional visit by an ex player however they are mostly attended by groups of folk meeting over a beer or two pre match.

How does that sit with the building likely to be owned by a religious community that forbids alcohol? I'm not saying people cannot manage to attend without having a drink, however I've a feeling that may impact the number of visitors on a matchday

I'm happy just to walk through the turnstile at 2.58 and then get away as fast as I can at the final whistle......

Why not use one floor of the suites in the Sunwin?, At present one floor is for corporate and dining and the lower floor is open to suite members only that provides bars, TVs and a catering unit for pies and chips etc, Why not make this the fan zone with food, stalls, Tvs, Music and Bars, Instead of the few 25 yr season ticket holders who get free access and a few who pay around £120 year it could be packed and take a lot of cash for the club and give supporters a meeting place even when poor weather, In good weather could be extended to beer and food outlets in the car park behind the Sunwin (directors can park elsewhere on those days)

Not all 25 years season ticket holder use the Sunwin, I'd say the vast majority of fans who use the suites are not 25 years.
When times were better the 2012/13 suite was used for hospitality before and after the game, and we had to mix with the table in the McCall/Hendrie Suites ;).

Probably because the numbers allowed into the suite area would be restricted. I think it is almost sold out currently so not sure what the benefit would be? The club would lose the income from the suite memberships and would the income from bars be any more than currently?

On the 25yr side they do not get it free, that is what is paid for and the ticket free, or at least that is how it showed on the receipt last time I bothered looking.
