Decent signing. Any further CB signings need to focus on pace. If we want to play fluid, attacking football at VP next season, we need a mobile defence

We needed a centre half though so let's see how it goes.

 

We have paid a fee for a 31 year old Stockport squad player.

Im not sure on this one at all. Very underwhelming and dont understand it.

 

As usual, I will have to reserve judgement until I see him play. Maybe he will be Taylors replacement, rather than Platt's...?

 

Also a bit underwhelmed tho' I feel better than I did when we signed Ash Taylor. We'll have to wait and see. GA should know more about defending than both of us. Don't think we've paid a fee for a cb since the young lad from Hartlepool.

 

Let's see how he gets on. People talk about needing pace, but we need some CB physical presence as well - after all it's L2.

 

Anything as back up or as part of a 3 is better than Taylor !

 

I suspect it was something of a contribution towards cancelling his contract or something.

Could have been that they had a very good CB sert and so the two/three in front of him were marginally better.

When we had Critchlow, Platt and Stubbs - whoever missed out was still a decent L2 defender.

 

Not one to get the pulses racing, tbh I'd rather the CBs that come in to be of a quality better than what we already have, rather than a back up option which is how this feels. Anyway best of luck to him.

 

Byrne's resume is pants though. A NL journeyman for Halifax, Fylde, Gateshead, Telford etc.

I dont like shitting on signings before they kicked a ball but this one does not say to me 'promotion' and that is the aim.

 

Trying not to be but underwhelmed he’s had limited playing time and is 31. I just get the impressions lessons are never learnt down at VP and how many bit part players have we had over the years who simply aren’t up to it.

 

Nice to see that we've now signed up Stockport County as a feeder club.
