Pink Floyd One of These Days
Alabama 3 Peace in the Valley
    Curved Air It Happened Today
Iron Maiden Wildest Dreams or possibly Can I Play With Madness
    John Lee Hooker Dreaming’ Blues
    Marvin Gaye What’s Going on?
    Motörhead Another Perfect Day
Richard Thompson Song of the Keepers
The Clash Should I Stay or Should I Go?
    Pink Fairies Never Never Land
    AC/DC Shoot to Thrill

This is what comes of having a bit of time on my hands and a stupidly large record collection

How about one for away trips on the Corn dolly Vengabus :grinning:
As an aside, before lockdown, one of the guys behind us in Block E main stand missed a match because he was off to see the Vengaboys. I kid you not. You know who you are.

They were an Aussie band, he apparently didn't get paid cash for the vocal, set of car seat covers instead

Think I would replace ‘’stupidly’ with ‘exceptionally’. Have you cut and created that as a real playlist for your car?

    No, but perhaps I should.
The very first record I bought was Paint it Black, and I just carried on from there. I wouldn’t like to speculate about just how much I’ve spent on music over the intervening decades. A few years ago it had just become so large and unwieldy that I took the decision to digitise it all, and sell the vinyl on eBay. In some ways I regret doing that, but it has meant that I’ve listened to stuff I’ve not heard for many years, thanks to the random button.

Of course that also leads to me wondering why on earth I bought something in the first place…..

I've got a load of vinyl from my teens and twenties sitting largely unplayed on shelves. It's so much easier to just Bluetooth to my various systems from Spotify on my phone. And I get to try albums that I heard, or heard of, but never bought. But I just can't bring myself to get rid of all those glorious record covers.
For all the convenience of digital (and I've totally embraced it) there was something magical about peeling off the cellophane wrapper on an LP, and getting a first look at the artwork/lyrics/liner notes on the inner sleeve or middle of a gatefold. And the bragging rights from walking into school with a brand new album that your mates hadn't got yet, or some particularly esoteric album that no one else was into yet - the first Roxy Music album comes to mind, before the Virginia Plain single came out.

I remember buying "My people were fair etc" purely on the basis of the cover artwork!

Oh yes, I can still recall that wonderful sense of smugness the first time I put Hot Rats on the sixth form stereo at WGS. Although it has to be said that the reaction was not quite as favourable as I might have hoped…

    Ha ha! I can imagine.
Actually, Hot Rats was quite a favourite in the Upper Sixth Common Room at my school but would have gone down like a cup of cold sick in the Lower 6th one. I used to sneak into the U6 CR when I was in L6 'cos I had mates who were in the year above.
I remember one of the cool lads in L6 informing me that the triple live album Yessongs had been released the previous day. I said, 'Yeah, I know, I've got it', having pre-ordered it. Smug, Moi?
Twice Around the Houses by Jonathan Kelly and CSNY's Four Way Street were two particular common room faves. I also picked up on Wishbone Ash there, leading to a lifelong love of that criminally underrated band.

Slightly before my record buying began. But the first full price album I bought was Electric Warrior, and I still love it.

My sixth form was full of Ted Nugent fans (male) and girls who wanted to marry David Coverdale.

    Ted Nugent - euch!
I liked the Deep Purple album, Burn, with Coverdale replacing Gillan, but I never followed him after that though. I did see Whitesnake at Reading Festival in 1979 and they were pretty good. Unfortunately I got there late on the first day 'cos my mum's borrowed Ford Anglia kept breaking down on the way, so I missed Doll by Doll, who I love.
