Never really got on with Yes. Bought the albums, listened to them in varying states of consciousness ranging from stone cold sober to chemically enhanced and all stages in between. I completely recognise their musical prowess, they were consummate musicians, but those lyrics were and remain so pretentious I reckon. -

For me, The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge are beyond criticism - I just love them, as much now as when I was 16/17. They are the apogee of 'prog rock' to my ears - never to be bettered. The rhythm section of Bruford and Squires was unbelievably good.
Toby's Graphic Go-kart, as Wakeman called Topographic Oceans, was a major disappointment to me and I lost interest after that.
Funny how we all hear things differently. I loved Yes but feckin hated ELP, though they are often bracketed together. -
So. Tonight. The weather is absolutely awful, so some calm soothing music on the way over the M62, with appropriate lyrics. Hopefully not need to be played on the journey home.
