Just seen this announcement on Portsmouth ex players forum...only 58.

The PFPA are saddened to announce that former Pompey captain Mick Kennedy passed away at his home in Ireland yesterday, Mick was just 58 years old. Mick was signed by Alan Ball from Middlesbrough in 1984 and went on to make 144 appearances for the blues scoring 5 goals. He was a member of 'The Gremlins' side that won promotion to the top flight in 1986/87. He also played 5 times for the Republic U21 side and won two full caps. Mick was inducted into the Portsmouth Football Club Hall of Fame in 2018. A player who gave his all for the shirt and will always be remembered by those saw him play in his four seasons at Fratton Park.

Our condolences to Mick's family and friends at this sad time.

RIP to one of our own.

    Thats quite a shock.

We could do with some Micky Kennedy type characters in our team now.

RIP Micky, and deepest condolences to his family and friends

Yes ............ A player who neither asked for, or gave any quarter.
A true footballers man. His family can be proud, within their great loss.

Proper tough tackling, no nonsense footballer. We had a lot of those in the side during the 87/88 season, and it was him and players like him that inspired me to play in midfield. Could do with some of his ilk now. That's a legacy he should be proud of.

    RIP.

We also had the silky skills of Leigh Palin to compliment the hard tackling midfield players like Kennedy

Remember that Kennedy cross to Palin for that headed goal against Everton in the Littlewoods cup to put us 3-0 up, what a night that was.

I've an old football book somewhere with a section in it about his time at City. Think he lived at the Norfolk Gardens hotel, smoked a pipe and was far more of a deep thinker about the game than his demeanor portrayed. RIP, 58 is no age.
