Not sure, but to date Im enjoying the type of player McCall is bringing in on his 1st summer window. Think its a case of shipping out the shit from previous myself.

Teflon is only reserved for goalies. And wrong.

As for the poster who has referred to McCall as "respected" as a manager. A tad strong. McCall has done nothing as a manager. And before some bang on about getting to Wembley, he did so with 90% of Parkinsons team.
If the day ever comes Smc builds a team and gets them promoted. Then and only then will he gain my respect. (I'm judging him as a manager)

I dont really recall the 91 squad. The 2003 squad that were relegated from the championship? In relative terms, probably worse, but that squad had Wetherall, Windass, Summerbee. Clearly better players than we have now.

I posted a link to the 2011 squad earlier. It was a better squad than this and had players who'd walk into this side. McLaughlin or O'D? Very little in it. Oliver and Davies would walk straight in, as would Ramsden - when fit. Reid walks straight in, I'd have Ravenhill in there too, Reid walks straight in, as do Hanson and Wells. And even if you mean the previous season, most of those were there too and you cluod add the likes of Daley, Flynn. In my mind, many of the players we had on the fringes contributing little, would get into this side. I'd rather have Deane Smalley or Craig Fagan than Guthrie.

I'd rather have Scott Neilson than DMH.

The centre backs and strikers in both squads were better than our options now.

In absolute terms, this is the worst squad I can remember.

Seriously. Go through it. If you had to pick a matchday 18 from a combination of this and our current squad, the majority would come from the 2010/11 squad.

I think when people talk about the 2011 squad they're thinking of the one Archie and Jackson built to start the season rather than the one that ended it.

Even the car crash 2008/9 squad looks better to me.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_Bradford_City_A.F.C._season

Nothing much in the keepers, but let's go with OD

Right back - Arnison looks a better bet than French to me. Or even TJ moncur.

Left Back - Heckingbottom didn't pull up any trees second time round, so let's go with Wood.

Centre Back - Bower definitley gets in. Then I'd probably go with Lee over over either O'Connor. Clarke was ropey, but better than BRE.

Midfield - Law and Furman definitley get in. As does Daley. Colbeck would be a better option than DMH. Bullock would be as good an option as Cooke. Syers would be in the mix. Our left sided options in both squads are poor. Pritchard is better than Nix, Ismail has talent but we know is never fit. So 3 of the midfield 4 are from 2008, possibly even 4.

Upfront. Thorne is the easiest pick of the lot. And itd have to be Boulding over either Novak or Guthrie.

You're probably right. I still think this squad is worse.

I've posted the link above. Seriously, if you have 5 mins, pick a combined 11 and subs bench. I think I'd have more from 2011 than now. Even if you discount those signed from October onwards, it still leaves McLaughlin, Oliver, Threlfall, Ramsden, Bullock, Adeyemi, Hanson, Neilson, Daley, Syers, Hendrie, Moult, Evans (at 23). They’d all get in the current match day squad and I think many would have a shot at starting.

Is 3 games into a new season really the best time to start comparing the current squad against ones from 10-12 years ago?

Maybe, maybe not. But theres never a wrong time to judge the quality of your team, when it's in the context of a thread calling for the manager to go. To my mind, any talk of McCall out at such an early point of the season is ridiculous in and of itself, but even more so when you consider the tools he has to work with. Added to which, the majority of players weve seen on display so far, arent new to the club.

Most definitely. Nialle Rodney, Jake Speight, Chib Chilaka. OK we had Omar Daley and a few others that would get into our side now, but it was unbalanced and with poor players in too many positions. Only changed when Parkinson began to bring players in.

'Unbalanced with too many poor players in too many positions'.

The same could be leveled at this squad.

90 % really heres the team that started at Wembley and who Phil Parkinson left when he walked.

    C Doyle
    R McArdle

    R Vincelot (c)
    N Knight-Percival
    T McMahon
    J Cullen
    N Law
    J Meredith
    B Clarke

M Marshall, a player Parky couldnt get a tune out of yet under Stuart I believe won POTY award.
    C Wyke

Look I question the decision to bring McCall back myself, but even if that side was heavily influenced by Parkinson players, think 90% is ott like, it was still a good achievement. I remember that summer in 2016, people were actually writing the squad and manager off saying mid table at best. Let’s not try rewrite history and pretend everyone thought we should piss the league.

I'd say the standard of league 2 is worse now than it was then due to various reasons. The one big positive we have at the moment is a few young players who look like they could develop to a better level than they are currently at. Watt has potential to be a championship player, i saw it in Cullen, Burke and O'Brien and this lad has it. I'd say he has the potential to play further forward as well. Wood also could hold a place in league 1 and we have the likes of Staunton, Sutton and French who have also shown glimpses of promises. That said, the rest of the sqaud still suffers from years of a poor transfer policy and one win over poor opposition doesn't suddenly change that.

Agree on both points. I think the leagues standard has dropped, and this squad does have more young potential. I especially like the look of Watt. I think Cooke has it too, but isnt helped by where/how hes being played. I dont think theres room for him and Clarke in the same side.

I agree, you either go with Cooke who apparently has the game to play the 10 role or Clarke who we know can play the 10 role but is only here on a years contract. Both players are less effective in other roles. Pointless taking Cooke on a two year contract if hes playing wide, like Pritchard thats not where hes effective. Clarke has laid down the marker though and McCall likes him. Make your own mind up.

To be fair on the 3 performances we've seen so far Clarke has been round the top end with regards performance, it's certainly not easy only being able to play the one position when were blessed with so many payers who are multi talented .

Every player has a preferred position, quality players usually play that position the whole of their careers. I'd say at the moment we have too many players whose attributes are more suited to the number 10 role behind a front two or as a three behind a lone striker. Need a bit more balance.

I don't see Cooke as a no. 10 at all, definitely an attacking CM
