I have always supported the fact that Phil Parkinson left several quality players when he left, but McCall added to those still at the club and the rest is history, Marshall became a completely different player from the one Phil Parkinson signed the previous season, Law, Vincelot, Dieng, Hiwula, Knight-Percival, Colin Doyle, Cullen returning to "finish business" as he was quoted as saying.
Even accepting he had a very good 7/8 players left he could afford to play Steve McMahon in preference to Mr Consistency Stephen Darby and take the club one step future than Phil Parkinson could, no mean feat in his first season back, your correct after our Wembley appearance (some wont like this) Rahic screwed the guy allowing players he wanted to keep to leave not offering them contract, and even then up to his departure he had us in a top 6/7 position during his second season.

My mind might be playing tricks on me but I can only recall Marshall wanting to move down south and Cullen wanting to move up a league.

Who did McCall want to keep that he was stopped from doing so?

McArdle, Darby, Hiwula we let Fleetwood out bid us, Merridith, and Mark Marshall, and as I posted still had us in and around a play off place.

Yeah I mentioned Marshall. Hiwula I agree with, not sure we were that fussed about losing Darby and McArdle from memory.

Wasn't Meredith another one that chose to go to a higher level rather than being stopped from signing?

Eventually he did, but we were suppose to be offering him a new contract around Christmas 2016 as he was possibly (I'd suggest defiantly) the best right back in league one at the time.

    https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/14956579.james-meredith-i-want-to-sign-up-for-more-with-bradford-city/

As with McArdle I believe Stuart commented at the time Rory would have to problem getting fixed up, which he didn't as Scunthorpe offer him a good deal, Darby went on to sign a 2 year contract at Championship Bolton Wanderers and play under Phil Parkinson where he was obviously struggling until he was sadly diagnosed with MND.

Yeah I know where they all ended up. Just wasn't sure which ones we had much of a hope of signing or were that bothered about fighting for.

I know you're one for detail so I thought I'd just jog your memory as you thought your mind might be playing tricks.

Spot on about being too open. I would always first of all, make sure we are very strong at the back and make us hard to score against. We are so flimsy at the back its frightening. Any opponent who does their homework will know this and take the game to us right from the start and unsettle us, it seems to be working for most teams that play against us.

Now Steve McMahon would have been a very good signing in 1990.

We had no choice with Meredith and Marshall.
PP tapped Darby up and McArdles legs were well gone by the time we allowed him to leave. Huwula I didn’t care for.

We had every chance of keeping James Meredith read the link https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/14956579.james-meredith-i-want-to-sign-up-for-more-with-bradford-city/, talk was we were going to make him a contract offer around Christmas.
I agree Mark Marshall was desperate to get back down South to his family, but we let both McArdle and Darby leave, some will no doubt say Rahic was right, and as I posted it certainly looked that way as McCall had up in the a play off place for most of that season.

Think you're reading too much into that article on Meredith Players are never going to confirm that they want to leave during the season.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/15315112.amp/

    Which is more true?

Never expected anything else from your good self, reads clear enough to me.

JAMES Meredith has signalled his intention to finish his career in England at Valley Parade.

I'm bang up to date thanks Bronco.

I have no doubt that he made all the right noises but we offered him a contract and he didn't sign it. Because he wanted to move up a level.

    No your not,

9th December 2016 he says "JAMES Meredith has signalled his intention to finish his career in England at Valley Parade"

On 29th May 2017 Meredith says "Meredith, currently on holiday in Australia, said: "I met (Millwall boss) Neil (Harris) and he came across so well" so your wrong I'm afraid.

I don't know what you mean.

I think you're forgetting the point of this discussion.

We were talking about McCall not being allowed to keep players. If we offered him a contract and he chose to go to a higher level how was McCall not being allowed to keep him?

I'm forgetting nothing we never offered Mezza the contract most fans and Mezza thought he would get around Christmas 2016, we get to Wembley and lose to Millwall, in the mean time Neil Harris gets in touch with Mezza in May 2017 and made him an offer to play Championship football which he accepted,
So going back to the original debate we lost McArdle, Darby, Hiwula we let Fleetwood out bid us, Merridith, and Mark Marshall, because Rahic thought he knew best.

I've explained it all once here https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/mccall-out-with-poll.4246/page-51#post-423274 .
