Opening day, scoring not one but two goals, winning...what's going on here? Time for some of this appropriately-named IPA:

We get quite a few Polish beers over here, but I haven't seen that one. Zywiec, Tyskie, Lomza, and Lezajsk are my usuals.

But today, it was a cheap & cheerful Aussie sauv. blanc from Deakin Estate. Might have a Henninger lager, or Great Lakes' Octopus Wants to Fight IPA in the evening.

We've gone for a Nebbiolo d'Alba from the Langhe in northern Italy. Very nice too.

Some good Polish beers there but my favourite is Specjal. Second is Lech. Look out for these too

RCB nice to hear from you! Any Estonian beers over there? Quite a few good ones - including Estonian cask ale - around these days. The beer scene has calmed down quite a bit here. Not so many new craft breweries popping up each month, so I’d say it’s more balanced and quality beer from Estonia at the moment. Even Saku and Le Coq making some decent ales!

Tere tere! It's been a while since the Commission brought in any Esto. beers; some of the Põhjala offerings were here a year or two ago, and further back some Saku Originaal, but the former is definitely niche beer, which they only bring in as one-offs, and the latter standard Euro lager, of which there are already countless examples imported. Maybe someday they'll bring in some more...but the natural market is small and it's tough to break in to the non-Estonian / non-Estonian-heritage population.

For what it's worth, I wish they would bring in some A. leCoq -- it's always been my preferred major Esto. brewery. I just think they're better quality, and have a more interesting variety of beers, than Saku.

There's been so many craft breweries starting up here, that not surprisingly some have gone under, some have merged, and some have let themselves be bought up by an industrial brewer. But more than enough quality and variety remains. One local brewer is part-owned/run by an Esto, Shawn Till -- the Shawn and Ed Brewing Co. in Dundas. Good lager.

I hope the family is keeping well, and the bar is going well. One day I'll get over there again, but at the moment I have no idea when... I have two mid-90s family members to look after, and though one would manage well for a fortnight or so with enough food and drink left in the fridge and freezer, the other would not.

Had a lovely pint of Small World Thunderbridge Stout (5.2%) in the Fighting C ock after the Bromley win. I don't find outstanding ales on draft much these days so thought it worth a mention.

Don't we all (and Boltmeker) but unfortunately only the bloke in the FC can pull it properly, the lass behind the bar with tats, and even Sue the landlady, pulled mine so it went flat quickly (as did the staff in the fleece in Haworth yesterday). None of them can match any of the staff in the Ling Bob, where you wouldn't know who had pulled it as it's always excellent.

The beer in the FC is average at best unless the bloke pulls it. Unfortunately you have to sit at the bar to be able to guarantee you get served by him.

Don't you just hate having to check the bar before diving in when a decent pint puller is available, at £4-5 a pint it should be a given that staff are able to serve it properly.
I love a Spoons, but don't get me started on the lack of sparklers on the pumps there.

The problem with Spoons is they are trained to pull a pint exactly with zero waste, and you need some waste to get a decent pint, this is why pubs with autovacs always serve better beer. Sadly, the FC doesn't seem to make the most of their autovac.
