Lawn did nothing wrong selling to R & R. They offered a price that was accepted. Not his problem how the club is run after although I would expect it pisses him off to see where the club has ended up.

So a club that has successfully operated above a 12k and 15k capacity for a number of yearwis going to build a stadium that potentially only holds 12k?

    Great stuff.

Is this Fordy who constantly bleats about lack of ambition?, what a joke. 12,000 in L1 never mind Championship, at least you get first prize for laugh of the week.

He’s not belittling the club. He is honorary life president at the club according to the article!

he’s having a go at people on social media and the like creating rumours of discontent at the club.

he makes a good point tbf. Twitter is a completely toxic platform and very little good comes from it. Facebook isn’t much better. There is some real drivel posted.

As Lawn said, in the past such thoughts would be laughed off in the pub, but nowadays every Tom, Dick n ‘Arry has a voice and a platform to speak on these newer platforms - yet a lot of it is gibberish.

It wasn’t a risk free investment, football club twice in administration in a couple of years, could easily have gone the other way and lost them money.

Anyway at the risk of being repetitive, the pension fund owns the stadium, their trustees have a legal duty to get the best return for the fund. Giving away a £4-500k a year income for free probably isn’t within their remit.

Fair cop to Lawn good honest straight talking interview, not sure where this dig at the club is?? In fact he seemed very defensive of Rupp, Sparks and Adams and as a fan like the rest of us realises it’s going to take time under Adams to get us where we want to be, out of this awful league. Unfortunately people might just have to accept it’s a two year job, I’d rather that than sack him this season and start again with no guarantee of success anyway.

He was also spot on when he said ‘Fans say they want people to be honest but they really don’t.’ The amount of times this gets used as a stick to beat someone with is unreal, not talking just at this club but throughout football. One minute people say there’s not enough characters in football, then those that are, are gobshites etc.

I thought a lot of what he said made sense apart from the figures he quoted on rent, but he is six years out of the loop. I didnt read him as belittling the club. Far from it. I think he was actually backing up Sparks (and Rupp).

Despite its name, the FLPF isn't open to all FL employees. It's what is known as a Small Self Administered Scheme and limited to only a small number of employees/directors. From memory, it's limited to about a dozen people. Ulysses might be able to confirm that.

Has the PLPF made money on the deal? With hindsight, unquestionably yes. The rent earned the fund around an index linked 12%pa over that period. That sounds like a high return to me but when the deal was struck 20 years ago, the club was a significant risk and could have gone bust. That risk was baked into the expected return. As we know, it came within about 1 hour of being liquidated in Admin 2. Had that happened, the pension fund would have made a major loss. It's worth saying that the deal with the FLPF wasn't out of line with the other offers on the table at the time and almost identical to the deal negotiated with the Pru for the lease of the offices which was inherently less risky than the lease on VP. As the Prof said later, the FLPF was the best offer available and without it, the club probably would have entered administration earlier with liquidation probably having been the outcome.

It remains a mystery to me to this day as to why Gibb and JR themselves didn't fund the club to avoid the ground being sold to the pension fund. But apparently JR refused to release funds from their jointly owned company which had been established after Admin 1 to do just that.

He's a City fan, as is his family. Why would he "belittle" the club he and his family supports in public?

He’s backed Sparks and Adams saying he’d have made the same decisions.
He’s confirmed that there’s no interference from directors and that managers make all the decisions on players.
He’s also confirmed that the VP rent is a major problem and hard to sustain whilst allowing a competitive playing budget.

Take on here for example, talk of Adams quitting/sacked, the furore behind Crankshaw leaving etc. And youre right about Twitter, can give you a right laugh but be equally toxic at the same time. Crikey he was even mentioned on here as belittling the club when you won't find a bigger Bradford City fan than Lawn. That said I don't agree with all he says in the interview. Not sure why we keep going back to old boys from the club, let's move forward FFS.

Nothing wrong with what he says. Shame he wasn't as robust when deciding who to sell to.

One gripe - whoever we have in charge, doesn't seem willing or able to find solutions to these apparently existential issues, such as needing to finding a massively higher rental cost than others. OK - what are you doing about it? I don't tell me there's nothing that can be done.

Quite right Mike. Trustees have a Fiduciary duty and failure to exercise it can result in jail time. As a point we are not the only EFL club with this level of rent, there are others who have lower income levels through attendance numbers. Example Oxford who are not even allowed to generate income from catering when I last knew. It all goes to the Landlord who wanted a further rent increase for building a stand on the fourth side of the ground.

My point is that you said, ‘My feeling is Rhodes, Lawn, Rupp and co just don’t care enough. Go back to Leeds and holiday intheir holiday home then play the poor card then the poor city card then the we have a club club’.

Seems that you disparaged them as you consider they live in ‘Leeds’, the mega irony is that you live in Leeds! Otherwise why say ‘go back to Leeds’? That living in Leeds, means you don’t care. So do you care?

Actually totally incongruous as Rhodes lives (or did so) in Ilkley, Lawn in the Cullingworth area and Rupp in Germany. So where Leeds comes into the equation, is totally lost on me.

You are the Leeds resident, claim to have a very successful business but haven’t invested in the club (so playing your poor card)?!:whistle:

Not just any emotional tie which of course is important but it wouldn't be a 24000 seater as we have now, probably something on the lines of 10000 max...which would be unsustainable in my opinion..
